Narrative
MY ACFT WAS CLRED BY THE TWR FOR A VISUAL APCH STRAIGHT IN TO RWY 30 AND 'CLRED TO LAND.' I WOULD GUESS THAT OUR CLRNC TO LAND WAS GIVEN ABOUT 5 MI OUT. VERY LITTLE RADIO TFC WAS ON TWR FREQ. NEITHER MY STUDENT NOR I HEARD THE B737 CLRED FOR TKOF (ON RWY 17). JUST AFTER TOUCHDOWN AND AFTER XING RWY 17; OUR PAX/OBSERVER STATED THAT 'AN AIRPLANE JUST WENT BEHIND US.' UPON QUESTIONING; SHE (A SAILPLANE PLT) TOLD ME THAT ALL 3 WHEELS OF THE B737 WERE ON THE GND WHEN IT WENT BY. NEITHER MY STUDENT NOR I SAW THE B737 UNTIL AFTER IT HAD LIFTED OFF AND WAS 1/2 WAY DOWN RWY 17. THE WX CONDITIONS WERE AS FOLLOWS: 1) THE SUN WAS AT A VERY LOW ANGLE AND ON THE NOSE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. 2) DUST AND HAZE MADE OBJECTS ON THE GND VIRTUALLY INVISIBLE. 3) THE B737 WOULD HAVE BEEN JUST BEGINNING TO MOVE AS WE WERE ON SHORT FINAL TO RWY 30. I DID NOT DETECT ANY MOVEMENT ON THE GND. I LOST NO TIME FROM THE AIRPLANE TO THE TELEPHONE TO CALL THE TWR. APPROPRIATELY THE SUPVR ANSWERED ON THE FIRST RING. HE SAID STRAIGHT OUT THAT THEY HAD MADE A MISTAKE IN CLRING THE B737 TO TAKE OFF AND THAT HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROB. CORRECTIVE ACTION: ALL OF US INVOLVED NEED TO BE PAYING MORE ATTN TO 'SITUATIONAL AWARENESS.' P.S. DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN. THIS SAME SIT OCCURRED TO ME SEVERAL YRS AGO AT THE SAME ARPT; SAME TIME OF DAY; SAME RWYS; ME IN A 206 AND THE OTHER ACFT WAS A 1900. MAYBE SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE; BUT THEY BETTER CHANGE!
