Synopsis

PLT OF A BEECH BARON; BE55; INADVERTENTLY RAISED THE LNDG GEAR INSTEAD OF THE FLAPS DURING A TOUCH AND GO TKOF CAUSING DAMAGE TO BOTH PROPS; THE BOTTOM OF THE FUSELAGE AND WHEELWELLS.

Narrative

I WAS PERFORMING A TOUCH AND GO IN A MULTI-ENG ACFT WHEN THE LNDG GEAR COLLAPSED. THE TOUCH AND GO WAS PERFORMED AFTER COMPLETING ONE CIRCUIT IN THE PATTERN FOLLOWING A GAR. THE APCH I FLEW WAS DIFFERENT DUE TO THE OVERRUN AND THE FIRST 3000 FT CLOSED WITH MEN AND EQUIP. I FLEW THE APCH TO COME IN AT AN ANGLE VERSUS A RECTANGULAR PATTERN. THE LNDG WAS WITHIN THE FIRST 500 FT OF RWY AVAILABLE (5000 FT). THROTTLES WERE ADVANCED AND THEN I REMEMBERED THE FLAPS WERE AT 10 DEGS. I REACHED OVER THE CTL COLUMN TO RAISE THE FLAPS. THAT ACTION WAS FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY SCRAPING SOUNDS. AT FIRST I DIDN'T REALIZE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THEN I LOOKED OUT THE SIDE WINDOW TO THE L ENG AND OBSERVED THE PROP STOPPED AND BENT. WHEN THE ACFT STOPPED I NOTIFIED TWR AND THEN EGRESSED THE ACFT. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THIS INCIDENT WERE THE LACK OF RECENT EXPERIENCE (1.1 HRS IN 17 MONTHS IN ACFT) WHICH MADE ME UNCOMFORTABLE IN THIS ACFT. I ALSO HAVE LOW MULTI-ENG TIME (20.8) AND WAS RELYING ON RUSTY HABIT PATTERNS. IN HINDSIGHT I SHOULD HAVE FLOWN WITH AN INSTRUCTOR AT LEAST ONE MORE TIME; PERFORMED A STOP AND GO SO I COULD VERIFY WHICH SWITCH WAS BEING MOVED; AND NOT HAVE HAD A COMPLACENT ATTITUDE. IT WAS ONLY SUPPOSED TO BE A 30 MIN FLT IN THE PATTERN. WHAT COULD HAPPEN?
