Synopsis

A GRUMMAN AA5A 100 HR CHK PROP WAS SIGNED OFF IMPROPERLY BY A PERSON NOT DOING THE WORK.

Narrative

I AM THE OWNER OF A GRUMMAN AA5A CHEETAH AND I LEASE IT TO A FLT SCHOOL. I ALSO WORK AT THE FLT SCHOOL AS AN AIRFRAME CERTIFICATED MECH. THE EVENT IN QUESTION IS OF MY DOING. I PAID A FELLOW CO-WORKER CERTIFICATED A&P MECH TO PERFORM A 100 HR INSPECTION ON MY AA5A; XBXA. HE DID SO AND RETURNED THE ACFT BACK TO SVC. I SPOKE WITH HIM ABOUT THE 100 HR AND KNEW OF ALL THE DEFECTS THAT WERE FOUND AND REPAIRED. NOW; 4 WKS LATER; THE NEXT 100 HR CAME DUE AND I PAID THE SAME A&P MECH TO DO THE 100 HR AGAIN. NOW THIS WK I WOULD BE GONE ON A TRIP FOR 1 WK AND OVERSEAS ABOARD A SHIP SO; JUST PRIOR TO MY DEP FOR THE DAY; I NOTICED THE PROP LOG HAD NOT BEEN SIGNED OFF FOR THE PREVIOUS 100 HR INSPECTION. I FIGURED THE MECH MUST HAVE FORGOT. I KNEW HE WOULD DO THIS AGAIN; SO I WROTE THE MISSING LOG ENTRY FOR THE 100 HR ON THE PROP AND SIGNED HIS NAME AND HIS A&P NUMBER TO THE WRITE-UP. MY INTENTIONS WERE TO SHOW HIM AND IF HE LIKED THE WRITE-UP HE COULD INITIAL OR RE-ENDORSE THE LOG ENTRY AND MY BOOKS WOULD BE IN ORDER. BUT I DID NOT SEE HIM AND HAD TO LEAVE ON MY TRIP AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OK UNTIL I RETURNED SINCE HE WOULD BE PERFORMING THE NEXT 100 HR ANYWAY. NOW; UPON MY RETURN; HE LEFT A MESSAGE FOR ME ABOUT A LOGBOOK DISCREPANCY HE FOUND. I FINALLY TALKED TO THE MECH. HE WAS COMPLETELY MAD AND ACCUSED ME OF FORGERY. I EXPLAINED THE SIT AND HE SAID HE DID SIGN OFF THE PROP BUT HE PUT IN THE AIRFRAME LOGBOOK; SO I X'ED OUT THE WRITE-UP AND WROTE IN BIG BOLD LETTERS 'IMPROPER ENTRY; SEE AIRFRAME LOGBOOK FOR THIS 100 HR PROP INSPECTION.' THE MECH SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE; BUT HE WAS GOING TO KEEP A PHOTOCOPY OF THE WRITE-UP BEFORE IT WAS X'ED OUT AND I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO COME OF THIS; SO I AM FILLING OUT THIS FORM TO HELP WITH ANY FUTURE EVENTS OVER THE BAD ENTRY IN THE PROP LOG. NOW I MUST SAY I INTENDED NO MALICE OR WRONG DOING IN THIS SIT.
