A B767-300 CAPT REPORTED THAT; WHILE LNDG ON RWY 25L AT LAS; A B727 WAS HOLDING SHORT OF XXX WHICH CAUSED THAT ACFT'S JET BLAST TO DESTABILIZE THE REPORTER'S APCH TO THE POINT THAT EVASIVE ACTION WAS NECESSARY.

Narrative

THIS WAS A SCHEDULED B767-300ER ACR FLT FROM ATL TO LAS. LAS WEATHER WAS CLR WITH CALM WINDS. WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 25L APPROXIMATELY 14 MI E OF THE ARPT. THE ACFT WAS BEING FLOWN MANUALLY WITH AUTOTHROTTLES OFF. ON SHORT FINAL; IT WAS NOTED THAT A B727 WAS LOCATED ON TXWY A3; POINTED N WITH HIS JET BLAST DIRECTED ACROSS OUR RWY. AS LNDG FLARE WAS INITIATED AND THROTTLES RETARTED; THE ACFT RAPIDLY ROLLED; REQUIRING FULL AILERON INPUT TO COUNTERACT. SUBSEQUENT TOUCHDOWN AND ROLLOUT WERE UNEVENTFUL. I CONTACTED LAS TWR BY TELEPHONE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY ROUTINELY HAVE ACFT UTILIZE TXWY A; TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 25R AT TXWY A3; FOR SEQUENCING WITH OTHER DEP ACFT ON TXWY B. I DO NOT KNOW THE POWER LEVEL OF THE B727 AS OUR ACFT WAS IN THE FLARE; BUT IT CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS SIT WITH THEIR JET BLAST DIRECTED ACROSS OUR RWY (AND CALM WINDS). IF LAS TWR FEELS COMPELLED TO CONTINUE TO USE TXWY A TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 25R AT TXWY A3; I WOULD 'STRONGLY' SUGGEST THAT THEY INSTRUCT ACFT TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY A3 ON TXWY A (ACFT THUS FACING E) AND THEIR JET BLAST NOT DIRECTED TOWARDS A RWY BEING USED FOR LNDG.
