F900 CREW HAD TRACK DEV IN DCA CLASS B.
Narrative
ON JUN/TUE/00; AT APPROX XA30Z; WE WERE DEPARTING DCA FOR SJC OFF OF RWY 33. OUR INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO INTERCEPT DCA 329 DEG RADIAL AND CLB TO 3000 FT. THOUGH I WAS PIC; I WAS OCCUPYING THE R SEAT AND PERFORMING PNF DUTIES. THE FLT DIRECTOR MODE SELECTOR WAS PROGRAMMED FOR HEADING; AND THE HSI MODE WAS SELECTED FOR ARC/VOR. AFTER TKOF AND UPON ENTERING IMC; I NOTICED WE WEREN'T INTERCEPTING THE RADIAL; SO I INSTRUCTED THE PF TO TURN L TO INTERCEPT; WHILE AT THE SAME TIME (MYSELF) TURNING THE HEADING BUG KNOB TO THE L. BY THE TIME THE NAV MODE WAS ARMED; WE HAD ALREADY PASSED THE RADIAL AND AT THE SAME TIME WAS HAVING A CONVERSATION ABOUT NOISE ABATEMENT AND A FREQ CHANGE WAS IN PROGRESS. BY THE TIME WE REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING; WE WERE QUITE AWAY OFF THE RADIAL AND WERE RAPIDLY APCHING ASSIGNED ALT. THE NEXT CTLR ASKED WHAT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING AND I REPLIED 'INTERCEPT THE 329 DEG RADIAL.' HE GAVE US FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS TO PROCEED ON COURSE AND JUST BEFORE HE HANDED US OFF TO THE NEXT ONE; HE SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF 'DON'T WORRY; GOT YOU COVERED;' WHICH OF COURSE I THANKED HIM VERY MUCH FOR. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY CONFLICT; LUCKILY. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL.
