(FO HAS 1800 HRS (200 IN TYPE); 6 MONTHS WITH COMPANY; 3 MONTHS ON LINE; PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE LIGHT RECIPROCATING TWINS.) SMOOTH APCH. DEEP IN FLARE; ACFT DROPPED AND ROLLED L. STRIKING L WINGTIP (UNDERSIDE). SCRAPED AREA ABOUT 14 INCHES BY 4 INCHES BY 1/8 INCH DEEP. NO INDICATION OF CONTACT FROM COCKPIT -- ACFT BUILT LOW. CONCERNED OF POSSIBLE CONTACT DUE TO BANK ANGLE ON TOUCHDOWN. FOUND DAMAGE ON POSTFLT. ACFT FERRIED OUT BY OTHER CREW. MAINT COORDINATED WITH ACR. COVERED WITH SPD TAPE. INSPECTED EVERY 500 HRS. CREW DEBRIEFED WITH DIRECTOR OF OPS. GIVEN LINE CHK; RETURNED TO SVC. I FEEL IF I HAD BEEN AT (WAS PREPARED TO TAKE) CTLS; I WOULD HAVE BEEN QUICKER TO REACT MORE AGGRESSIVELY IN RECOVERY. DO NOT BELIEVE IT WAS WINDSHEAR. WAKE TURB NOT LIKELY. NO OBSTRUCTIONS UPWIND TO CREATE CURRENTS/EDDIES. NO GUSTS RPTED TO US ON AT LEAST 2 PREVIOUS OPS. CL65 IS DERIVED FROM CL604. TO MY KNOWLEDGE; GEAR HT OR STANCE NOT VARIED -- WING SPAN WAS TO MAKE CRJ. BAD GEOMETRY. STILL FEEL FO CAPABLE OF APCH. FEEL DECISION TO ALLOW HIM TO LAND A GOOD DECISION WITH POOR RESULTS.
