AN MD11 IN CLB AT FL190 EXPERIENCED AN 'AILERON DEFLECTED DISAGREEMENT LIGHT.' ACFT EXPERIENCED NO ROLL OR TRIM CONDITION WITH FUEL BURN NORMAL.
Narrative
DURING CLBOUT; RECEIVED AN AILERON DEFLECTED DISAGREEMENT ALERT. DEFLECTED AILERONS ONLY AFFECT THE OUTBOARD AILERONS WHICH WOULD NORMALLY BE LOCKED INTO A FAIRED POS ON OTHER LARGE ACFT. ABNORMAL CHKLIST WAS ACCOMPLISHED NOTING THAT RESTRS WERE MACH .82 AND THAT FUEL BURN MAY INCREASE BY 20% AND THAT A DIVERSION MAY BE NECESSARY FOR FUEL REASONS. BY THE TIME THE CHKLIST WAS ACCOMPLISHED; THE ALERT HAD GONE AWAY. ALERT REAPPEARED SEVERAL TIMES AND FINALLY CAME ON STEADY AFTER 2 HRS OF FLT TIME LEAVING 3 HRS TILL DSCNT. WE MONITORED THE FUEL AND HAD NO INCREASE IN FUEL BURN LNDG WITH 28800 LBS WHICH WAS AS THE FLT PLAN PREDICTED. DURING APCH; THE ALERT INITIALLY WENT OUT AND THEN REAPPEARED. THIS WAS A REPEAT MAINT WRITE-UP. THE PREVIOUS TIME THE FLC RETURNED TO THE TKOF ARPT DUE TO ADVERSE WINDS AT THE ARR ARPT. OUR RTE OF FLT ANC-IND HAD NUMEROUS ARPTS ALL WITH GOOD WX IN CASE A DIVERSION FOR FUEL WOULD HAVE BEEN NECESSARY. OUR OPS CTR WAS NOTIFIED AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH OUR FOM FILED A 'FLC SAFETY RPT' WITH OUR FLT SAFETY DEPT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE OUTBOARD AILERONS ON THE MD11 ARE ALLOWED TO BE DEFLECTED FOR ADDED LIFT BUT HAVE CIRCUITRY TO ADVISE IF A DISAGREEMENT EXISTS BTWN L AND R AILERONS. THE RPTR SAID THE WARNING MESSAGE LIGHT CAME SHORTLY AFTER DEP AND THE ABNORMAL CHKLIST WAS ACCOMPLISHED. THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT EXPERIENCED NO ROLL OR AILERON TRIM REQUIREMENT AND THE FUEL BURN WAS NORMAL. THE RPTR SUSPECTED A FALSE WARNING AND CONTINUED TO FLT TERMINATION. THE RPTR SAID THE COMPANY WAS ADVISED THIS WAS A REPEAT WRITE-UP. THE RPTR STATED THIS ASRS RPT WAS FILED BECAUSE THE COMPANY WHEN ALERTED OF ANY INCIDENT WILL HAVE THE FAA MEET THE TRIP. THE RPTR SAID THE COMPANY WOULD SOONER HAVE THE CREW PAY THE FINE IF AN IRREGULARITY WERE DISCOVERED.
