AN ACR FLC FLYING AN MD90 DEPARTING SLC IMPROPERLY PROGRAMMED THEIR FMC RESULTING IN A TRACK DEV.

Narrative

FO PROGRAMMED FMS; OMITTING PART OF SID TRANSITION. I REVIEWED RTE BUT DIDN'T CATCH ERROR. FMS FLEW DIRECT RTE BTWN FFU AND MLF VORS INSTEAD OF THE LESS DIRECT TRANSITION. IT WOULD HELP IF THE AIRLINE FILED THE TRANSITION IN IT'S FLT PLAN. WE DIDN'T FIND OUT ABOUT TRANSITION UNTIL RECEIVING CLRNC; AFTER FMS WAS PROGRAMMED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 480210: UPON RECEIVING THE PDC I DID NOT CONFIRM ALL PAGES OF THE PDC ON THE ACARS SCREEN. I JUST SAW THE SLC J11 FFU MLF J107...MATCHING THE FLT PLAN. IT WAS THE CAPT'S LEG AND I FIGURED HE WOULD CATCH ANY CHANGES. ABOUT THAT TIME A JUMP SEATER ARRIVED AND REMAINED IN THE COCKPIT FOR THE FLT. ATC DISCOVERED OUR EARLY TURN AND TOLD US TO GO DIRECT TO MLF AFTER ASKING US WHAT OUR CLRNC WAS. THE LESSON FOR ME IS TO DOUBLE-CHK WHAT HAS BEEN PUT INTO THE FMS AGAINST ALL PAGES OF THE PDC WHETHER IT IS MY LEG OR NOT. A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THIS OVERSIGHT IS THAT SOMETIMES THE SID IS LISTED WITH THE FLT PLAN ROUTING SO YOU SEE IT AT THE BEGINNING OF IT. IN THIS CASE IT WASN'T. PERHAPS ALL PDC'S SHOULD INCLUDE THE SID AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FLT PLAN ROUTING SO IT IS NOT OVERLOOKED.
