Synopsis

AN L1011-100 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT FUEL QUANTITY INDICATOR INSTALLED IN THE UNDERWING REFUELING PANEL.

Narrative

ACFT ARRIVED WITH PLT WRITE-UP OF #3 FUEL QUANTITY GAUGE AT REFUEL PANEL MISSING KNOB TO SET BUG. I LOOKED UP THE PART IN THE ACFT ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG AND IT SHOWED THE REPEATER GAUGE CALLED FOR WAS A WXWX-VV; ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG. WHEN I PULLED THIS NUMBER IN THE COMPANY COMPUTER SYSTEM; IT SHOWED ME THE CLASS CTL NUMBER XX-YY (ATA NUMBER). THE PART WAS PULLED AND INSTALLED ON THE ACFT. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ACFT WAS GNDED AT ANOTHER STATION DUE TO THE WRONG PART BEING INSTALLED. IN RESEARCHING THE MAINT PART NUMBERS; I FOUND THAT THE INTERCHANGEABILITY PAGE FOR THIS PART WAS UNCLR. WHEN THE WXWX-VV NUMBER WAS PULLED UP; THE INTERCHANGEABILITY PAGE WAS VERY CLR ON WHAT ACFT THE PART SHOULD BE USED FOR. NOWHERE IN THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG DOES IT REFLECT THAT THE WXWX-VV IS USED ON THIS PARTICULAR ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 483202: I GOT MY REFS FOR THE JOB AND TOOK OUT THE INOP FUEL GAUGE AND INSTALLED THE NEW FUEL GAUGE. THE OPS CHK FOR THE NEW FUEL GAUGE WAS GOOD. AT A LATER DATE; I WAS NOTIFIED BY MY SUPVR THAT THE PART NUMBER FOR THE FUEL GAUGE WAS THE WRONG ONE.
