Narrative
APCHING THE ANI ARPT FROM THE NW; I MADE A POS RPT AT 5 MI AND STATED MY INTENTIONS TO LAND ON RWY 28. IN THE MEANTIME; A SUPER CUB RPTED 10 MI SW. ON RPTING DOWNWIND FOR RWY 28; THE SUPER CUB RPTED DOWNWIND JUST AFTER MY RPT. I DID NOT HAVE VISUAL CONTACT WITH HIM BUT ASSUMED HE WAS BEHIND AND OUTBOARD OF ME BECAUSE HE HAD RPTED 3 MI OUT JUST PRIOR TO MY RPTING DOWNWIND. A C170 WAS AT MY 11 O'CLOCK POS AND LOWER ON FINAL FOR RWY 28 WHILE I WAS ON DOWNWIND. I FOLLOWED THAT TFC AND LANDED. ON CLRING THE RWY; I NOTICED A SUPER CUB CIRCLE LOW IN A L-HAND TURN WITH ANOTHER CUB IN THE BACKGND ON FINAL AT THE SAME LEVEL ON FINAL. EVIDENTLY; I HAD ALMOST LANDED ON TOP OF A CUB AND HIS EVASIVE ACTION SAVED THE DAY. ON SHUTDOWN; AN FAA INSPECTOR WHO HAD BEEN A PAX IN THE C170 TOOK MY CREDENTIALS AND TOLD ME MY RADIO WAS HARD TO READ AS DID THE OTHER 2 CUB PLTS. ON THE NEXT FLT OUT; I CHKED MY RADIOS WITH ANOTHER ACFT AND HE STATED THAT MY XMISSION WAS 3 X 5. TO PREVENT SUCH AN OCCURRENCE FROM HAPPENING AGAIN; I BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE CHALLENGED THE SUPER CUB THAT RPTED DOWNWIND IF HE HAD ME IN SIGHT. I WAS NOT AWARE NOR DID I HEAR OR WAS AWARE OF A SECOND CUB IN THE PATTERN. I EVIDENTLY CUT THE SECOND CUB OFF ON FINAL.
