DC10 CREW HAD TRACK DEV ON THE QUIET 2 DEP IN SFO CLASS B AIRSPACE.

Narrative

WE HAD BEEN FLYING THE SAME RTE ALL MONTH (SFO-IND). WE HAD BEEN CLRED TO FLY A PUBLISHED SID WHICH REQUIRED US TO MAINTAIN RWY HDG UNTIL 4 DME; THEN TURN L TO AN INTERCEPT HDG FOR A RADIAL OFF THE SFO VOR. EVERY DEP PRIOR TO THIS ONE ATC HAD INSTRUCTED US TO TURN TO A HDG IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF RATHER THAN FLY THE PUBLISHED SID. THIS CLRNC WAS ALWAYS RECEIVED AS WE WERE TAKING THE RWY. ON THIS DEP (FO FLYING) WE WERE NOT TOLD TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE TURN AS WE HAD ON PREVIOUS DEPS; BUT DURING THE INITIAL CLBOUT. WE STARTED OUR TURN EARLIER THAN THE 4 MI DEPICTED ON THE SID. ATC TOLD US TO 'INTERCEPT THE 342 DEG RADIAL;' WHICH WE WERE DOING; BUT OUR INITIAL REACTION WAS TO ROLL OUT OF THE DEP TURN; WHICH; BY COINCIDENCE; ALLOWED US TO GET BACK ON THE PUBLISHED DEP PATH. THERE WAS NO TFC CONFLICT OR CONFLICT OF ANY KIND; OTHER THAN WE TURNED TO OUR INTERCEPT HDG A LITTLE EARLY. ATC TOLD US 'NO PROB' BUT WE FELT A NASA RPT WAS APPROPRIATE.
