Narrative
MY STUDENT AND I WERE CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 28R APCH TO MYF ABOUT 3 MI OUTSIDE THE OM. WE WERE SLIGHTLY HIGH (+/-200 FT) AT THE MARKER AND SLIGHTLY OFF COURSE TO S DUE TO PRECESSION OF HDG INDICATOR. WHILE TRYING TO CORRECT GYRO AND REMAIN ON COURSE AND DSND TO GS; WE APPARENTLY DID NOT SWITCH TO TWR AND CONTINUED TO A LNDG ON RWY 28R. WE EXITED RWY AT TXWY G AND CALLED TWR BTWN RWYS 28R&L AND WERE ASKED IF WE HEARD TWR OR APCH. WE THEN BECAME AWARE THAT WE MUST NOT HAVE CALLED TWR AFTER HDOF FROM APCH. WE ASKED FOR CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 28L AND PROCEEDED TO PARKING AFTER CONTACTING GND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF RWY 28L. WE WERE NOT CHASTISED OR ASKED TO CALL TWR; BUT WANTED TO ADVISE NASA OF THE INCIDENT. WE COULD PROBABLY HAVE AVOIDED THIS SIT IF WE ASKED TWR TO CONFIRM 'CLRED TO LAND' OR MADE CERTAIN WE SWITCHED TO TWR AT MARKER; BUT AT THE TIME IT SEEMED TO MAKE SENSE TO 'FLY THE AIRPLANE' RATHER THAN TACHOMETER. THERE WAS CONFUSION IN COCKPIT AGGRAVATED BY AN UNUSUAL RADIO CONFIGN THAT IS RARELY USED IN TODAY'S ACFT. (THIS WAS AN OLD MOONEY M20C.) THIS WAS MY FIRST FLT WITH THIS STUDENT WHO IS INST RATED AND CURRENT AND MY FIRST FLT IN THAT AIRPLANE.
