A B767-200 WAS DISPATCHED ON AN OVERNIGHT FLT RPTED LOSS OF #1 ENG OIL QUANTITY AND PRESSURE AFTER A #1 INTEGRATED DRIVE GENERATOR WAS REPLACED.
Narrative
ON SEP/WED/00; ACFT XYZ CAME TO MY GATE WITH A DROP DEAD MEL (MUST FIX BEFORE FLT) ON THE #1 ENG IDG (INTEGRATED DRIVE GENERATOR). I PROCEEDED TO REPLACE THE IDG PER THE BOEING MAINT MANUAL. I PERFORMED A SATISFACTORY LEAK CHK ON THE GATE. I WAS ADVISED THE FOLLOWING DAY; THAT THE ACFT WAS OTS AT BZB; FO; WITH 'HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION ON #1 ENG.' CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE #1 ENG INTEGRATED DRIVE GENERATOR WAS REPLACED TO CLR A DEFERRED ITEM ON THE FAILED UNIT. THE RPTR SAID THE DEFERRED ITEM WAS NOT CONNECTED TO ENG OIL LEAKAGE; BUT TO ELECTRICAL FAILURE OF THE UNIT. THE RPTR STATED THE INTEGRATED DRIVE GENERATOR WAS REPLACED PER THE MAINT MANUAL AND THE GEARBOX CARBON SEAL WAS REPLACED PRECAUTIONARY. THE RPTR SAID THE ENG WAS RUN AT IDLE AND NO LEAKAGE WAS FOUND. THE RPTR SAID THE FAA INVESTIGATED THE LOSS OF OIL INCIDENT AND DETERMINED THE TECHNICIANS WHO REPLACED THE UNIT DID NOT REF THE MAINT MANUAL USED FOR THE CARBON SEAL REPLACEMENT. THE RPTR SAID THE LATEST INFO ON THE CAUSE OF THE CARBON SEAL AND THE INTEGRATED DRIVE GENERATOR INPUT SHAFT 'O' RING SEAL FAILURE IS THE UNIT INPUT SHAFT WAS NOT RUNNING TRUE.
