Narrative
THE C150 WAS AHEAD OF ME BY SEVERAL MI WHEN IT APCHED THE TFC PATTERN. PROPER RADIO PROCS WERE USED THROUGHOUT. I CALLED THE TWR A FEW MINS AFTER THE CESSNA TO RPT INBOUND FROM THE SAME DIRECTION (NW). BOTH ACFT WERE GIVEN THE CLRNC TO 'RPT 2 MI R BASE TO RWY 18.' AS I RPTED R BASE TO RWY 18; I SAW THE CESSNA JUST STARTING TO DEPART RWY 18 ON THE 'OPTION.' THE CESSNA BEGAN ITS TURN ONTO L XWIND. L TFC IS STANDARD FOR RWY 18. I PROCEEDED TO DO MY TOUCH-AND-GO ON RWY 18 AS REQUESTED AND CLRED BY THE TWR. THE CESSNA WAS NOW ON L DOWNWIND. BOTH ACFT PROCEEDED TO MAKE ANOTHER CIRCUIT. INTO THE THIRD CIRCUIT; THE CTLR; WHO IS NEW TO THIS TWR; PROCEEDED TO REPRIMAND BOTH ACFT FOR NOT 'TELLING HIM WE WERE GOING TO MAKE L TFC.' I QUERIED HIM ON HIS COMMENT. THE CTLR SAID 'I SET BOTH ACFT UP FOR R TFC AND YOU ARE DOING L.' I LANDED; TAXIED TO PARKING AND TALKED TO THE PLT OF THE OTHER ACFT WHO IS ALSO A CFI. NEITHER OF US COULD RECALL EVER BEING TOLD TO MAKE R TFC. BOTH ACFT ALSO REPEATEDLY MENTIONED 'L' DURING THE PATTERN WORK AND WERE CLRED FOR THE OPTIONS. THE CTLR MUST HAVE BELIEVED THAT A R BASE ENTRY TO THE ATA IMPLIED R TFC.
