Narrative
ALTDEV. FO FLYING DEP. NORMAL TKOF TO 4000 FT WHERE I CALLED OUT TRANSITION ALT AND WE RESET ALTIMETERS. SOME TURB AND MINOR DEVS FOR WX. VERY BUSY DEP. APCHING FL100 OUR ASSIGNED ALT I NOTICED THAT WE HAD BOTH SET OUR ALTIMETERS TO 28.92 INSTEAD OF 29.92 AND DIRECTED THE FO TO DSND BACK TO FL100 ON AN ALTIMETER OF 29.92 WHICH WAS DONE IMMEDIATELY. WE WENT ABOUT 400-500 FT ABOVE OUR LEVELOFF ALT. REMAINDER OF FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL AND THERE WAS NO TFC CONFLICT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. WE BOTH RESET OUR ALTIMETERS INDIVIDUALLY BUT SEEMED TO GO TO THE CLOSEST .92 INSTEAD OF THE RIGHT SETTING. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THE STRONG LOW THAT WAS IN THE AREA. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 491108: AS WE APCHED FL100 PARIS CTR QUERIED OUR ALT. IT WAS THEN THAT THE CAPT NOTICED THE ALTIMETER SETTING. I STARTED A DSCNT BACK DOWN AND WE BOTH ADJUSTED THE ALTIMETERS TO THE CORRECT 29.92. THE FLT CONDITIONS WERE IFR WITH RAIN SHOWERS; CUMULO NIMBUS AND MODERATE CHOP; I BELIEVE THIS ALL CONTRIBUTED TO THE MISTAKEN SETTING. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 491109: CLBING OUT OF CHARLES DE GAULLE LEVELED OFF AT 10000 FT. ATC QUERIED US TO MAINTAIN FL010. WE THEN NOTICED THAT OUR ALTIMETERS WERE SET AT 28.92. I WAS THE RELIEF PLT ON THE FLT AND LOOKED UP AND THOUGHT I SAW 29.92 AFTER THE CAPT AND FO STATED RESETTING THEIR ALTIMETERS AS THEY PASSED THE TRANSITION ALT OF 4000 FT. THERE WAS WX ON DEP THAT WE WERE AVOIDING TRYING TO REQUEST VECTORS OFF OF THE SID; AT CDG; ON A VERY BUSY FREQ CONTRIBUTED TO THE DISTRACTIONS. WE ALSO SAT ON THE RWY FOR 40 MINS WAITING FOR THE XWINDS TO COME INTO LIMITS SO WE COULD TAKE OFF. THE ALTIMETER SETTING FOR DEP FROM CDG WAS 971 MILLIBARS.
