Synopsis

MD11 CREW HAD ACFT LAND OVER THE TOP OF THEM ON RWY 10 AT SBGL.

Narrative

GIG GND CTL INSTRUCTED US TO TAXI TO THE HOLDING POINT OF RWY 10 VIA TXWY N AND TXWY O. WHILE APCHING THE HOLDING POINT; THE TWR CTLR STATED 'ACR ABCD; LINE UP AND WAIT RWY 10.' THE COPLT REPEATED THE CLRNC. AS WE CONTINUED TO TAXI TOWARD THE RWY AND VERY CLOSE TO THE RWY; WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO HOLD OUR PRESENT POS. AS I STOPPED THE ACFT; I LOOKED BACK BEYOND THE APCH END OF THE RWY AND NOTICED THAT AN ACFT WAS ON FINAL. OUR AIRPLANE STOPPED WITH THE NOSE EXTENDED BEYOND THE EDGE OF THE RWY. AT MY REQUEST; THE COPLT INFORMED THE TWR THAT OUR ACFT WAS ON THE RWY. AGAIN; WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO HOLD OUR PRESENT POS. THE COPLT REPEATED THAT OUR ACFT WAS ON THE RWY. THERE WAS AN EXCHANGE IN PORTUGUESE PROBABLY BTWN THE TWR CTLR AND THE ACFT ON FINAL. THE ACFT ON FINAL CONTINUED THE APCH AND APPEARED TO LAND QUITE A DISTANCE DOWN THE RWY IN RELATION BOTH TO OUR ACFT AND TO THE THOUSAND FT MARKER. THE COPLT AND I AGREE THAT THERE WERE AT LEAST 2 DIFFERENT CTLRS RESPONDING TO OUR XMISSIONS. THE NOSE OF OUR MD11 PENETRATED THE EDGE OF THE RWY BY ABOUT 3 FT.
