Narrative

AFTER A LONG MORNING OF WAITING FOR THE FOG TO LIFT AND SITTING AT AN UNFAMILIAR AREA OF THE ARPT; VISIBILITY FINALLY IMPROVED ENOUGH FOR DEP. MY CLRNC STILL ACTIVE; I CALLED RAMP CTL FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. 'TAXI TO TXWY IW VIA TXWY AA AND CONTACT GND 127.5' I DON'T RECALL IF I WAS TOLD TO EXPECT RWY 34; BUT NEVERTHELESS; THAT WAS THE ATIS ANNOUNCED DEP RWY. I; HOWEVER; TURNED L ON TXWY AA AND TAXIED TO TXWY IE; SURE I READ TXWY IW. TXWY IE WOULD HAVE LED ME TO RWY 35; THE RWY I'M SO USED TO DEPARTING ON. I CAN SEE HOW I JUST DRONED ON IN COMPLACENCY. I CONTACTED GND AT TXWY IE. HE QUERIED ME AS TO MY LOCATION. I THEN REALIZED I WAS AT TXWY IE AND NOT TXWY IW. I REQUESTED A 180 DEG TURN ON TXWY AA TO TAXI TO TXWY IW. IT WAS APPROVED WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. VERY LONG AND BUSY MORNING WITH EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITY AT TIMES HAD ASSUREDLY TIRED ME INTO MAKING SIMPLE YET POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS MISTAKES. I NEED TO LISTEN CAREFULLY TO ATIS; AND THEN HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT I'LL PROBABLY GET CLRED FOR BEFORE CONTACTING GND. IN THE FUTURE; I CERTAINLY PLAN TO BE MORE DILIGENT IN READING THE ARPT DIAGRAM.
