Narrative
BECAUSE OF A CELL PAINTING YELLOW DIRECTLY OFF THE END OF RWY 35L; OUR DEP RWY; WE ASKED DFW TWR FOR A TURN EITHER L OR R IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF. THE TWR RESPONDED WITH A HEADING TO THE L THAT WAS NOT QUITE LARGE ENOUGH TO AVOID THE CELL. I REQUESTED A HEADING OF 335 DEGS AND THE TWR CTLR APPROVED IT AND CLRED US FOR TKOF. AFTER TKOF AND CLR OF THE CELL; DEP CTL GAVE US A R TURN 080 DEGS. WE ACKNOWLEDGED AND STARTED THE TURN. REALIZING THAT OUR ASSIGNED ALT OF 10000 FT WAS GOING TO KEEP US IN THE CLOUDS AND TURBULENCE; WE REQUESTED TO CONTINUE OUR CLB TO A HIGHER ALT; DEP REFUSED THE REQUEST. SOON AFTER; THE DEP CTLR APPARENTLY NOT REALIZING THAT HE HAD A HOT MIKE; STARTED TO LAUGH AND JOKE WITH AN ASSOCIATE ABOUT OUR FLT. 'THIS YAYHOO WANTED A TURN TO 335; HE'S AFRAID TO FLY THROUGH CLOUDS. NOW HE WANTS TO CONTINUE HIS CLB. I'M GOING TO KEEP HIM AT 10.' HE SOON REALIZED THAT HE WAS ON THE AIR. I CAME ON THE RADIO AND ASKED IF HE WAS REFERING TO FLT XXX. HE SEEMED SURPRISED AND HE REPLIED NO. WE HAD LEFT THE GATE BECAUSE OF A WINDSHIELD HEAT PROB. DURING THAT TIME WE HAD SEVERAL HEAVY RAIN SHOWERS PASS THROUGH THE ARPT. WHEN WE REACHED THE DEP END OF RWY THERE WERE NO ACFT BEHIND US. THE TWR DID NOT SEEM TO MIND US TURNING AFTER TKOF; AND WE GAVE HER A CHOICE OF EITHER L OR R. SHE CHOOSE L. I BELIEVE HE WAS REFERING TO MY FLT; AS THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT BEHIND US FOR TKOF. ALSO THE 335 DEG HEADING PRETTY MUCH IDENTIFIES US AS BEING THE ACFT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. IT APPEARED THAT HE WAS KEEPING US AT 10000 FT. AS A WAY OF PUNISHING US FOR ASKING FOR THE TURN AFTER TKOF.
