DEVELOPING SEVERE WX AND TURB IN THE SLC; UT AREA RESULTS IN A DIVERSION AND INADVERTENT ENTRY INTO AN ADJACENT ARPT'S AIRSPACE. S56 APCH PROVIDED AN ASSIST.

Narrative

AFTER TAKING OFF OF SALT LAKE INT'L ARPT; WE WERE HEADED NBOUND TO LOGAN; UT. AREA ACFT RPTED TO TWR THEY HAD EXPERIENCED A LOSS IN ALT AND A 30 KT HEADWIND SUDDENLY. WE WERE CONTINUING NBOUND WHEN WE NOTICED IT WAS SLIGHTLY RAINING; THEN WE HIT A HARD BUMP OF TURB. WE NOTICED THE RAIN MOVED QUICKLY FROM RAIN TO A HAIL STORM. APCH TOLD US THAT THE STORM WAS 3 MILES WIDE. IT WAS CONCENTRATED OVER SKYPARK (BOUNTIFUL); SO WE COULDN'T TURN AROUND. WE CONTINUED TO OGD ARPT. APCH WAS VERY HELPFUL GETTING INFO FOR US TO LAND OGD. WE HEADED TOWARD OGD AT AN ALT OF 5100 FT AGL. WE HAD A VERY HARD TIME HOLDING ALT. WE HEADED TOWARDS OGD; MISTAKING HILL AFB BEACON FOR OGD. WE NOTICED AND HEADED BACK TO OGD. APCH ASKED US IF WE HAD TO LAND RWY 14. WE SAID NO; THAT I HAD MISTAKEN BEACONS. HE (SLC APCH) GAVE US VECTORS FOR OGD ILS RWY 3. WE LANDED SAFELY IN OGD; BUT HAD ENTERED HILL AIR FORCE BASE'S AIRSPACE. THE CTLR WAS VERY HELPFUL TO US; IN A VERY BAD WX SIT. IT WAS HEAVY RAIN AND BUMPY UNTIL WE TOUCHED DOWN IN OGD.
