Narrative
I WAS DEPARTING JVY ON FLT WITH A SICK BABY AND ITS MOTHER. JVY UNICOM ADVISED RWY 36 WAS THE ACTIVE. A G-4 WAS LANDING ON RWY 18; I GUESS ON THE ILS. THE G-4 HAD AN 11KT TAILWIND. I WAS IN A PA28R; HOLDING AFTER ATC GAVE ME AN 'OFF BY' TIME. LOOKING DOWN THE RWY I SAW LIGHTS; THEN THE G-4. KNOWING HE HAD A SUBSTANTIAL TAILWIND AND THAT G-4'S USE A LOT OF RWY; I DECIDED I MIGHT BE IN THE WAY OF HIS TURN-OFF. RATHER THAN DO A 180 I TAXIED ACROSS THE RWY TO A GOOD GRASSY AREA ACROSS FROM THE RWY END. HE PROCEEDED TO LAND AND TURN OFF WITH NO PROB. I ACTED IN THE MOST PRACTICAL WAY FOR THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS; MY PLANE AND MYSELF AND TO GIVE THE G-4 PLENTY OF ROOM. THIS HAPPENED AT JVY (AN UNCONTROLLED FIELD) WHERE MANY JETS ARE MIXING WITH SMALLER PLANES. JVY AIR-BOARD IS STUDYING THE NEED FOR A TOWER. EVENTS SUCH AS THIS ARE THE REASON A TOWER IS NEEDED. THIS INCIDENT WAS NOT A CLOSE CALL OR PROB; BUT COULD POTENTIALLY HAPPEN AGAIN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT HE HAD TO MAKE A QUICK JUDGEMENT CALL AND THAT GETTING OUT OF THE WAY OF THE G-4 WAS THE MOST PRUDENT THING TO DO. HE IS NOT SURE HE EVEN COULD HAVE HAD ROOM TO MAKE A 180 AND GET OUT OF THE WAY. HE ALSO KNEW THE GRASS ON THE OTHER SIDE WAS SOLID AND WOULD POSE NO PROB FOR HIM TO TAXI. THE PLT OF THE G-4 WAVED TO HIM AS HE PASSED. THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT HAPPENS ON OCCASION AND MANY PLTS FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A TWR TO AVOID SUCH INCIDENTS.
