Narrative
WE WERE GETTING VECTORS TO VISUAL APCH TO RWY 35C AT DFW. APCH GAVE US A TURN TO 90 DEGS TO FINAL (L BASE) AND SOLICITED 'RWY IN SIGHT?' VECTORS AND ALTS LEFT US HIGH AND TIGHT; BUT I THOUGHT I COULD SQUARE THE FINAL AND STILL BE ALRIGHT. RECEIVED AN OVERSHOOT; BUT I DIDN'T GET ANY FARTHER TO RWY 35R THAN ABOUT 1/2 WAY. DURING OVERSHOOT; TCASII SAID 'TFC; TFC.' THE AMBER DISK ON TCASII INDICATOR SHOWED ANOTHER ACFT 200 FT ABOVE US; PRESUMABLY ON APCH TO RWY 35R. I NEVER SAW THE OTHER ACFT; AND NEITHER DID THE COPLT. NO COMMENTS ABOUT TFC CONFLICT FROM EITHER APCH CTL OR TWR. NO RA FROM TCASII. AFTER CORRECTING TO FINAL; REST OF FLT WAS UNREMARKABLE. CAUSE: I ASSUMED I WOULD BE GETTING A LONGER FINAL APCH. THIS CAUSED ME TO GET CAUGHT HIGH AND FAST. CAUSE: I DON'T THINK I WORRIED ABOUT THE DANGER OF OVERSHOOT; SINCE I WASN'T COGNIZANT OF TFC ON RWY 35R UNTIL I BEGAN TO OVERSHOOT RWY 35C. CAUSE: APCH CTL GAVE ME A SLAM DUNK WITHOUT COMMUNICATING THEIR INTENTIONS. THAT IS; THEY HAD ME ON 90 DEGS TO FINAL; STILL HIGH; CLOSE TO THE FIELD AND THEN CLRED ME FOR THE VISUAL APCH. I NOTICED THE ACFT LNDG AFTER ME HAD TO REQUEST S-TURNS TO GET DOWN; AS WELL. CAUSE: I ACCEPTED THE VISUAL APCH WHILE TOO HIGH AND TOO CLOSE TO THE FIELD.
