A CORPORATE B85 PLT EXPERIENCE A RWY INCURSION AND A GND CONFLICT WITH LNDG TFC WHEN BELIEVING HE HAD CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 19R AT SNA; CA.

Narrative

LCL CTLR AT SNA TWR WAS WORKING BOTH POSITIONS; THE L (19L) AND R (19R) RWYS. LCL CLRED ME TO CROSS THE L AND HOLD SHORT OF THE R. I ACKNOWLEDGED AND PROCEEDED. JUST SHORT OF THE HOLD BARS FOR THE R. I WAS GIVEN ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS WHICH I PERCEIVED; GIVEN MY PHYSICAL LOCATION; WAS TO CONTINUE ACROSS THE R RWY. DUE TO IFR SEQUENCE REQUIREMENTS NOT AN ABNORMAL REQUIREMENT. UPON SELF-CLRING THE APCH END OF THE R RWY (19R) SEPARATION WITH ARR TFC WAS GROSSLY INADEQUATE AND I QUESTIONED THE CTLR AND BROUGHT MY ACFT TO A STOP. I HAD PASSED THE HOLD BARS JUST PAST MID-AIRPLANE. THE ARR MD80 WENT AROUND. I BELIEVE THE CTLR LOST SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AS TO MY ACTUAL LOC IN XING THE L FOR THE R. THE CTLR WAS WORKING TWO POS AT A TIME OF VMC/IMC OPS. WITH A MIX OF HIGH PERFORMANCE AND LOW PERFORMANCE OPS. THE TIME OF DAY HAS A HIGH TFC REQUEST FOR ARR AND DEPT COMMERCIAL OPS. THE POSITIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SPLIT. I HAVE REQUESTED ATC TAPES; AND HAVE SPOKEN TO SNA QUALITY ASSURANCE. A PLT DEV HAS BEEN FILED AND I WILL BE CONTACTED BY LCL FSDO. THE SECOND SET OF ATC INSTRUCTIONS; GIVEN MY POS JUST SHORT; AND APCH MY HOLD; CONFUSED THE SIT AT CRITICAL TIME. THE CTLR DID NOT KNOW MY ACTUAL LOC AND I BELIEVE IT WAS DUE TO UNNECESSARY EXCESSIVE WORKLOAD AT THAT TIME.
