USING THE NOAA CHARTS FOR MGGT GUATEMALA; A GA PLT IS ASSIGNED THE ILS DME 2; RWY 1. THE NOAA CHART BOOK HAD ONLY 1 APCH AVAILABLE AND IT WAS ILS DME 1; RWY 1.
Narrative
ON APCH INTO GUATEMALA CITY; I WAS CLRED FOR 'ILS/DME 2 RWY 1.' I UNDERSTOOD AND FLEW THE PUBLISHED ILS/DME 'TO' RWY 1. THERE IS ONLY 1 ILS DME PROC PUBLISHED IN THE APCH PLATES (CARIBBEAN/CENTRAL AMERICAN -- EXPIRES JULY/2001). THE CTLR QUESTIONED MY INTENTIONS WHEN I BEGAN TO FLY THE DME ARC INSTEAD OF PROCEEDING TO THE VOR; AFTER CLARIFYING; FLYING THE OTHER PROC; WAS CLRED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND LANDED. PROB: 1) CURRENT GOV IAP'S DO NOT CONTAIN ALL PROCS. 2) MULTIPLE PROCS SHOULD HAVE DIFFERENT IDENTS TO CLARIFY (VERSUS '2' WHICH WAS UNDERSTOOD AS 'TO'). CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR INDICATED THAT HE WAS FLYING THE 7 DME ARC TO INTERCEPT THE ILS TO RWY 1 WHEN THE CTLR QUESTIONED THE FACT THAT HE WAS NOT GOING DIRECT TO THE VOR TO EXECUTE THE APCH HE HAD BEEN CLRED FOR. HE STATED THAT THE CLRNC TO AN ILS THAT CONTAINS '2' IN THE TITLE CAN BE VERY CONFUSING; ESPECIALLY WHEN LANGUAGE AND ACCENT ARE PART OF THE PICTURE. THE RPTR WAS USING THE NOAA PUBS COVERING THE BAHAMAS; CARIBBEAN; CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA.
