A CITABRIA PVT PLT RPT ON THE DIFFICULTY ENCOUNTERED WHEN LNDG RWY 24 DUE TO THE EVER INCREASING DISPLACED THRESHOLD BECAUSE OF THE HIGH TREES ON THE APCH END AT PWK; IL.
Narrative
RWY 24 AT PWK. DUE TO XWIND CONDITION AND HIGH RATE OF DSCNT CHARACTERISTIC OF LNDG MY AIRPLANE; I LANDED APPROX ON THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD LINE. THIS LINE HAS BEEN MOVED IN THE PAST; YIELDING A SHORTER EFFECTIVE RWY LENGTH (WITHOUT CHANGE OF CONSTRUCTION OF PAVED SURFACE) DUE TO GROWTH OF TREES ON THE APCH END. I SUGGEST RE-EVALUATING THE THRESHOLD LOCATION. THIS RWY IS USED PRIMARILY FOR SMALL ACFT AS A THRESHOLD LOCATION TO ALLOW FOR A LONGER LNDG DISTANCE PRIOR TO XING THE HUMP AT RWY 16 (INTXN) WOULD BE A GOOD THING. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT THE TREES ARE A PROB IN 2 WAYS. FIRST; THEY ARE ALWAYS GETTING HIGHER. SECOND; THEY ARE PART OF A FOREST PRESERVE SO ANY ATTEMPTS TO TRIM OR CUT THEM ARE USUALLY MET WITH SOME RESISTANCE. ACCORDING TO THE RPTR; THERE HAVE BEEN NO INCIDENTS OR OVERRUNS THAT HE KNOWS OF AS YET. RPTR WAS ADVISED TO ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THE ISSUE ON A LCL LEVEL. HE WILL TRY TO GET SOME LEVEL OF ASSISTANCE FROM THE ARPT MGR; THE NATL ACFT ASSOCIATION THAT HE BELONGS TO AND THE LCL ASSOCIATION OF CITABRIA OWNERS. HE WILL FILE ANOTHER RPT IF THERE ARE ANY FURTHER ISSUES EVOLVING FROM THIS SIT.
