Narrative
I HAD OBSERVED THAT RWY 7/25 WAS NOTAMED CLOSED THE PREVIOUS WEEK. ON THE ABOVE DATE I DEPARTED MQJ USING RWY 25. UNICOM INFORMED ANOTHER AIRPLANE ON THE ILS FOR 25 THAT RWY 25 WAS CLOSED; WHICH IS WHEN I REMEMBERED THE NOTAM. THERE WAS NO SIGNAGE OR MARKINGS (INCLUDING AN X ON THE RWY); THERE WERE NO PEOPLE OR EQUIPMENT ON THE RWY AT THE TIME I DEPARTED ON IT. I ALWAYS CHK THE DUATS FORECAST BEFORE FLT; AND IN THE FUTURE I WILL PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE NOTAM SECTION. I WAS WRONG FOR USING A NOTAMED CLOSED RWY; BUT IF RWYS ARE CLOSED SIGNAGE SHOULD BE INSTALLED SOMEWHERE CLOSE TO THE RWY TO INFORM PLTS OF THE STATUS; I KNOW READ THE NOTAMS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR INDICATED CALLBACK THAT THERE APPEARS TO BE WORK BEING DONE ON THE RWY LIGHTING SYSTEMS; BUT ON THE DAY IN QUESTION THERE WAS NO ACTIVITY NEAR THE RWY. THE FBO OPERATOR PROVIDES THE UNICOM SVC. THERE WAS NO COMMENT ABOUT RWY CLOSURE IN HIS COM WITH THEM OR IN RESPONSE TO ANY OF HIS CTAF CALLS.
