A PA28 STUDENT AND INSTRUCTOR STRUCK A RWY HOLD SHORT SIGN EXITING THE RWY AFTER LNDG.
Narrative
WE WENT MISSED AT RYAN ARPT IN TUCSON; AZ; AND CONTACTED TUS APCH AND REQUESTED THE ILS PRACTICE APCH. THE CTLR ASKED FOR US TO MAINTAIN 110 KIAS FOR SPACING AND GAVE US VECTORS TO INTERCEPT THE LOC. WE WERE HIGH ON THE GS ONCE WE INTERCEPTED THE LOC AND PROCEEDED TO DSND. AFTER WE GOT SWITCHED TO TWR FREQ; THEY REQUESTED 'FASTEST FORWARD SPD.' WE WERE TRYING TO MAINTAIN SPD UNTIL THE SHORT FINAL POS; WHICH FOUND US BELOW THE GS. WE WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 11L. ALSO ON APCH WAS AN ACR X B727; WHICH WAS LNDG ON RWY 29R -- THE OPPOSITE END OF THE SAME RWY. WE TOUCHED DOWN ON RWY 11L AND OUR FIRST PRIORITY WAS TO GET OFF THE RWY. WE SLOWED THE AIRPLANE DOWN BUT IN OUR EFFORT TO TAXI OFF; OUR R WING STRUCK A RWY HOLD SHORT SIGN. AS WE WERE TRYING TO GET OFF THE RWY; I REMEMBER SEEING THE JET'S LNDG LIGHTS IN FRONT OF US; THOUGH NOT ON THE RWY. THE FACTORS THAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT WERE THE HURRIED APCH AND THE NEED TO GET OFF THE RWY FOR THE LNDG TFC. THE RIGHT DECISION WAS TO REJECT THE CLRNC AND WAIT UNTIL WE COULD PROCEED AT NORMAL SPD AND LAND WITHOUT THE ADDITIONAL FACTORS. WE WERE ABEL TO CONTINUE TAXIING AND THE B727 JET WAS ABLE TO LAND.
