Narrative
JUST PRIOR TO BOARDING FOR AN XB30 DEP; ACFT FOR FLT X FOR LAX AND FLT Y FOR SFO WERE CHANGED WITHOUT EXPLANATION AND FLT LAX WAS RESCHEDULED FOR XB15 LCL TO ACCOMMODATE PAX. FLT Y SFO HAD 82000 LBS FUEL NEEDED FOR LEG TO SFO. DISPATCH FUEL TO LAX ON FLT WAS ABOUT 74000 LBS. RATHER THAN DEFUEL; THE CURRENT LOAD WAS ACCEPTABLE AND WITHIN LIMITS FOR FLT TO LAX. UNKNOWN TO US; THE CREW FOR FLT Y HAD REQUESTED ADDITIONAL FUEL AND THE FUELER MISTAKENLY ADDED APPROX 6000 LBS IN THE CTR WING OF ACFT X. WE NOTICED THE INCREASED FUEL JUST PRIOR TO PUSHBACK; BUT FAILED TO REALIZE THIS PUT US OVERWT FOR TAXI BY ABOUT 1000 LBS AND ENTERED AN UPDATED FUEL OF 87200 LBS. THE ACFT WAS PUSHED BACK AT XC18 LCL; ENGS STARTED; AND THEN A MESSAGE FROM LOAD CTL WAS OBSERVED ON ACARS ALERTING US OF A PROBABLE OVERWT TAXI SIT. I STOPPED THE ACFT WHILE A FINAL DETERMINATION WAS MADE; THEN TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE WHERE SUFFICIENT CARGO WAS OFF-LOADED AND A REQUIRED MAINT INSPECTION ACCOMPLISHED. A COMBINATION OF ERRORS; BUT ULTIMATELY MY FAULT FOR MISSING THE CHANGE IN GROSS WT. ACFT DEPARTED AT ABOUT XC38 LCL; ARRIVING LAX ABOUT 1 HR 30 MINS LATE.
