Synopsis

AN MD369D HELI WAS OPERATED 4 YRS PRIOR TO STORAGE WITH TIME LIFE LIMITED PARTS SERIAL NUMBERS CONFLICTING WITH SERIAL NUMBERS IN LOGBOOK.

Narrative

HELI WAS IN STORAGE FOR 6 MONTHS. HELI WAS SOLD. I WAS HELPING PUT THE HELI IN A CONTAINER FOR SHIPPING. WHEN UPON CHKING PART NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER AND COMPONENTS; IT WAS DISCOVERED THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE HORIZ STABILIZER WAS NOT THE SAME AS THE ACFT PAPERWORK. THE SERIAL NUMBER WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO READ BUT YOU COULD TELL IT WAS NOT CORRECT. THE PART HAD NOT BEEN CHANGED FOR ABOUT 4 YRS ACCORDING TO LOGBOOK. THE OWNER HAS NO IDEA WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THE STABILIZER IS A TIME LIFE ITEM. STABILIZER WILL BE REMOVED BY NEW OWNER; MAIN ROTOR XMISSION SERIAL NUMBER DID NOT MATCH PAPERWORK. OWNER REMEMBERS HAVING THE CORE CHANGED FOR A CRACK AND THE IDENT PLATE WAS NEVER CHANGED. THE PAPERWORK; ETC IS BEING LOOKED AT BY THE PEOPLE THAT ORIGINALLY OVERHAULED THE PART AND CHANGED THE CASE LATER. THE WRITE-UP INDICATED A CHANGE IN MAIN ROTOR XMISSION. THE INTERNAL GEARS ARE SERIALIZED AND ARE BEING CHKED AGAINST THE OVERHAUL RECORDS. THIS WILL BE SETTLED AND CORRECTED BY THE NEW OWNERS.
