Narrative
FLT ABC. WE LANDED ON RWY 24R AT LAX; HAD ACR X AT RWY 24L AND ACR Y THEN CLRED TO CROSS BY TWR AND TOLD TO CONTACT GND. GND GAVE US INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI ON TXWY E; HOLD SHORT OF TXWY Y. AS WE WERE CLEANING UP THE AIRPLANE; I REALIZED I WAS UPON THE INTXN OF TXWY E AND TXWY Y. THERE IS NO SIGN FOR TXWY Y WHEN COMING ALONG E SINCE IT IS A HIGH SPD TURNOFF IF YOU ARE LNDG ON RWY 6R. GND CAME ON THE FREQ AND SAID 'ACR X ABC; I TOLD YOU TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY Y.' WE WERE ALREADY STOPPED AND WE WERE NOT BLOCKING TXWY Y; BUT WE WERE PART WAY INTO THE INTXN. NO OTHER ACFT WERE NEARBY (RELATIVE TERM) NOR DID IT APPEAR WE POSED A CONFLICT. CTLR THEN CLRED US VIA TXWY E AND TXWY D TO THE GATE. I MADE THE MISTAKE OF HAVING MY 10-9 PAGE OUT; BUT WAS RELYING ON THE INTXN SIGNS TO HELP (IE; TXWY D9; TXWY D10). MY FO WAS BUSY AS USUAL; CLEANING UP; CONFIRMING GATE (WE WERE LATE DUE TO FLOW TIME GIVEN TO US IN OAK). AS A SECOND MONTH CAPT; I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE DILIGENT ABOUT USING THE 10-9 PLATE OR TELLING MY FO TO TALK ME THROUGH THE TAXI SO I CAN KEEP MY EYES OUT OF THE AIRPLANE. THERE IS A 'Y' SIGN; BUT IT IS FOR ACFT ON RWY 6R MAKING THE EXIT. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH; 2 DAYS LATER WE HAD THIS SAME LNDG AND WHEN CLRED ONTO TXWY E BY GND WERE INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY E11 (WHICH IS 'Y') AND IS VERY VISIBLE AS YOU TAXI WITH ITS SIGN. I AM NOW FAMILIARIZING MYSELF WITH THE 10-9 PRIOR TO LNDG AND TKOF SO THAT WHEN MY EYES NEED TO BE OUT OF THE COCKPIT I CAN REMEMBER AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND WHEN IN DOUBT HAVE MY FO READ ALONG AND WHEN NECESSARY CLARIFY THINGS WITH GND EVEN IN BUSY LAX.
