BE58 PLT ENRTE TO JYO CANCELLED IFR N OF THE ARPT STILL IN CLASS B AIRSPACE.

Narrative

ON JUL/SAT/01 ON THE WAY BACK FROM NANTUCKET TO LEESBURG; VA; A POTENTIAL CLASS B AIRSPACE VIOLATION OCCURRED IN CONJUNCTION WITH A CANCELLED IFR CLRNC. I HAD BEEN CLRED IN THE BE-58 THAT I WAS FLYING VIA DIRECT KROLL INTXN TO JYO; DSND FROM 6000 FT TO 4000 FT; DID I SEE THE DSNDING AIRLINE GUY THAT WAS GOING DOWN TO 5000 FT; 12 O'CLOCK POS AND 5 MI; SBOUND? YES I DID. AFTER PASSING KROLL AND SBOUND TO JYO; I SAID I COULD CANCEL IFR AND GO DIRECT TO THE FIELD. AT THIS POINT; DULLES APCH NORMALLY GIVES YOU A CANCELLATION AND CLRNC INTO THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. AT THIS POINT; I WAS ABOUT 18 MI N OF AML AT 3500 FT AND DEFINITELY IN THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. HOWEVER; DULLES APCH INSTEAD SAID CANCELLATION RECEIVED AND REMAIN CLR OF THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. I QUICKLY DSNDED TO REMAIN CLR BUT THINK THAT IN MY DESIRE TO LET THE AIRLINE GUY ABOUT ME AND 5 MI AHEAD BE ABLE TO DSND SOONER; I MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY VIOLATED THE AIRSPACE. I QUICKLY DSNDED TO 2400 FT ABOUT 16 NM N OF AML AND WAS DOWN TO 1400 FT 13 NM N OF AML.
