MY LNDG IN SLC; USED AUTOBRAKES 2; LANDED RWY 17 SOMEWHERE BELOW 80 KTS AND PASSED TXWY P. THE CHANGE OF ACFT CTL TO CAPT TOOK PLACE AND AT SAME TIME INSTRUCTIONS FROM TWR WERE ISSUED; 'R TURN WHEN ABLE; HOLD SHORT RWY 14.' I ACKNOWLEDGED 'HOLD SHORT RWY 14.' SINCE WE WERE ALREADY PAST TXWY P AND N BY THIS TIME; THE CAPT TURNED R AT THE END OF RWY 17 ONTO TXWY J (ALSO THE DEP END OF RWY 14). HE TURNED FAR ENOUGH R TO SOMEWHAT ALIGN WITH RWY 14 (AS IF DOING A BACK TAXI). HE STOPPED WELL BEHIND THE RWY 32 THRESHOLD. A LIGHT SINGLE ENG LAND ACFT WAS ALIGNING TO LAND ON RWY 14. TWR SENT HIM AROUND. WE THEN WERE DIRECTED BY TWR TO BACK TAXI ON RWY 14; HOLD SHORT RWY 16L; WHICH WE DID. TWR WAS INITIALLY GOING TO FILE AN INCURSION RPT; BUT CTLR ON DUTY (AND OTHER CTLRS) VERIFIED WE WERE SHORT OF RWY 14 ON TXWY J AND HAD NO OTHER OPTIONS (WHEN WE WERE AT END WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO TURN R). RECOMMENDATION: DO NOT CLR ACFT TO TAKE OFF OR LAND ON INTERSECTING RWYS UNTIL IT IS KNOWN NO CONFLICT CAN OCCUR.
