'ACFT IN SIGHT; CLRED TO LAND RWY 27.' LIMITED TIME IN TYPE (17 HRS; AT THE TIME) AND IN COMPLEX (23 HRS). CONCENTRATING ON PRELNDG CHK. SAW THE RWY AHEAD; SLIGHTLY TO MY L; PARALLEL TO RIDGE AND RIVER. SAW ACFT APPARENTLY PERPENDICULAR TO MY TRACK; 'ON TIGHT R BASE' ABOUT 3 MI AHEAD. I DID NOT SEE THAT ACFT LAND. SHORT FINAL: GEAR DOWN; FLAPS DOWN; ENG NEAR IDLE...AND THE NUMBER '30' BENEATH MY NOSE ON THE RWY; WHICH WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. SECONDS FROM TOUCHDOWN; DO I GO AROUND OR LAND ON THE WRONG RWY? AT THAT MOMENT; IT SEEMED SAFER TO LAND. AS SOON AS I STOPPED; I RADIOED: 'TWR; I LANDED ON THE WRONG RWY.' RESPONSE; 'YEAH; I KNOW;' AND ONCE CLR; 'WHAT HAPPENED?' 'I LINED UP AND FIXATED ON THE WRONG WY; AND DIDN'T REVIEW THE ARPT DIAGRAM.' 'IF THE COMPASS SAYS '30' YOU'RE NOT LINED UP WITH RWY '27.' 'YES SIR; YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.' SO FROM NOW ON; I'LL REVIEW THE RWY DIAGRAM; OR THE PATTERN ON THE SECTIONAL; AND YOU'D BETTER BELIEVE I'LL CONFIRM MY HDG AGAINST THE EXPECTED RWY.
