Narrative
THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL UP TO BEING CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 30 AT IAD. FO WAS MAKING THE TKOF; CAPT WAS THE PNF; AND FO WAS IN THE OBSERVER SEAT. UPON RECEIVING TKOF CLRNC; FO PUSHED THE THROTTLES UP; OBSERVED STABILIZATION AT 1.1 EPR; AND CONTINUED THROTTLES TOWARD TKOF EPR. JUST PRIOR TO REACHING TKOF THRUST; ALL PLTS HEARD A LOUD BANG AND FELT A SWERVE TO THE L. FO SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A PROB; AND CAPT ASSUMED CTL OF THE ACFT TO EXECUTE THE ABORT. TOP AIRSPD WAS LESS THAN 50 KTS. CAPT RETARDED THE THROTTLES TO IDLE AND CAME ON THE BRAKES. THE ACFT STOPPED EASILY AND WE TURNED OFF RWY 30 AT THE SECOND TXWY. FO RPTED TO TWR THAT WE WERE ABORTING AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT GND. MEANWHILE THE L ENG CONTINUED WINDING DOWN BELOW IDLE AND FO RPTED THE ENG FAILURE TO THE REST OF THE CREW. CAPT DIRECTED FO TO NOTIFY THE PAX TO REMAIN SEATED AND HE DID SO VIA THE PA. FO CALLED GND AND TOLD THEM WE HAD CLRED THE RWY AND WOULD STOP TO ASSESS THE SIT. GND RPTED SMOKE COMING FROM L ENG AND THAT THEY HAD ALREADY ACTIVATED THE FIRE RESPONSE TEAMS. AT THE SAME TIME; FLT ATTENDANTS HAD CONTACTED FO AND RPTED SMOKE IN THE CABIN. CAPT DIRECTED EVAC AND FO BEGAN TO RUN THE QRC. WHILE FO AND CAPT SHUT DOWN THE COCKPIT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CHKLIST; FO WENT TO THE CABIN TO ASSIST WITH THE EVAC. THE EVAC ITSELF WENT FAIRLY SMOOTH WITH 1 PAX AND 1 FLT ATTENDANT RECEIVING MINOR INJURIES. WE FEEL CRM ISSUES WENT WELL. WE HAD GOOD INPUTS FROM FLT ATTENDANTS AND GND TO HELP MAKE THE EVAC DECISION. ONCE EVERYONE WAS OUT OF THE ACFT; THE CREW CONTINUED TO WORK TO ENSURE EVERYONE'S SAFETY AND THE ACFT WAS TURNED OVER TO THE FIRE CREWS.
