LJ24 AND AIRBUS HAVE AN NMAC IN ZLA CLASS E.

Narrative

WHILE AT 16500 FT AT CRUISE FLT; WE RECEIVED FROM ATC A RPT OF TFC; AN AIRBUS AT 11 O'CLOCK POS; AND 15 MI AND CLBING. ALSO; ATC ADVISED THE AIRBUS OF OUR POS. THE AIRBUS ACKNOWLEDGED AND STATED THAT HE HAD THE TFC ON TCASII; BUT NOT IN SIGHT AND THAT THEY WERE GOING TO LEVEL OFF AT 16000 FT. ATC ACKNOWLEDGED THE XMISSION AND ADVISED THE AIRBUS THAT ONCE HE HAD US IN SIGHT; HE WAS CLRED TO CONTINUE WITH HIS CLB. AROUND UNDER 1 MIN; WE SAW THE AIRBUS APCHING US BTWN 9-12 O'CLOCK POS AND ABOUT 3 MI FROM OUR POS; AND WHAT IT LOOKED TO BE RIGHT AT OUR ALT. ABOUT 20 SECONDS PASSED AND I STARTED TO MAKE A 30 DEG BANK L TURN; AND AS THE TURN PROGRESSED THE AIRBUS CONTINUED TO BECOME CLOSER; SO A 90 DEG BANK WAS MADE TO AVOID A COLLISION. I CALCULATE THAT THE ESTIMATED DISTANCE BTWN THE 2 ACFT WAS APPROX 100 FT. AFTER WE PASSED THE AIRBUS; THE AIRBUS CREW STARTED COMPLAINING TO ATC OF THE INCIDENT. THE ONLY THING THAT WE STATED TO ATC WAS THAT A 90 DEG BANK L TURN HAD TO BE MADE TO AVOID THE COLLISION.
