A B737-300 IN CLB AT 12000 FT HAD #1 ENG INDICATE A 5-7 SECOND EXHAUST GAS TEMP SPIKE TO 1050 DEGS. ALL OTHER INDICATIONS NORMAL.

Narrative

CLBING THROUGH 12000 FT; THE #1 ENG EXPERIENCED AN EGT INDICATION ANOMALY FOR 5-7 SECONDS. AN UPWARD SPIKE TO 1050 DEGS C WAS FOLLOWED BY AN IMMEDIATE DECLINE TO ZERO OF THE ANALOG POINTER AND BLANKING OF DIGITAL DISPLAY. N1; N2; FF AND THROTTLE ANGLE REMAINED CONSTANT. NO YAW OR COMPRESSOR STALL NOTED BY PLTS OR FLT ATTENDANTS. SUBSEQUENT INDICATIONS NORMAL. DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL CONTACTED INFLT. MAINT CTL ACCESSED ECM ACARS LINK DATA SNAPSHOT NORMAL; BUT TAKEN PRIOR TO EVENT. MAINT CTL ADVISED ENG INSPECT TO OCCUR AT DEST. MAINT CTL LINE MGR DEBRIEFED AFTER ARR. MR X; FLT MGR LAXFO APPRISED. HUMAN AND ACFT FACTORS: I DELEGATED CONTACT (CONTINUED FROM RPT #5) HUMAN AND ACFT FACTORS: I DELEGATED CONTACT WITH DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL TO FO. THE INITIAL TEMP CONVEYED TO MAINT CTL AND WAS IN EXCESS OF 930 DEGS C REDLINE. FURTHER DISCUSSION AMONGST OURSELVES CLARIFIED THE EXCEEDENCE AT 1065 DEGS C; MAINT CTL WAS ADVISED. PER B737-300 FLT HANDBOOK; THE MOVEMENT OF EGT POINTER (NON EIS GAUGE) TO ZERO AND DIGITAL BLANKING IS INDICATIVE OF GAUGE OR XMITTER FAILURE. LESSONS: WITHOUT PREJUDICE TOWARD A TALENTED FO; COM OF CRITICAL DATA IS MORE EFFECTIVELY ACCOMPLISHED BY CAPT.
