RWY EXCURSION. A B737-300 FLC LOSES CTL OF THEIR ACFT AFTER TOUCH DOWN ON A WET RWY DURING A NIGHT OPERATION AT MCI; MO.

Narrative

I WAS THE FO AND PLT FLYING DURING A NIGHT ILS APCH INTO MCI. THERE WERE SOME SCATTERED TSTMS AND RAIN IN THE AREA. ON TOUCHDOWN IN MODERATE RAIN; THRUST REVERSERS DEPLOYED; BUT WITH NO APPARENT EFFECT. THE ACFT DID NOT FEEL LIKE IT SETTLED ON ITS WHEELS AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED DRIFTING TO THE LEFT DESPITE CONTROL INPUTS TO CORRECT. THE ACFT DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RWY (IN A SLIGHT SIDEWAYS SKID) AND ROLLED TO A STOP NEXT TO THE RWY. THE WX WAS WORSE THAN EXPECTED AND THE WATER ON THE RWY ABSORBED ALL OF OUR OWN LIGHTS SO WE LOST SOME VISUAL CUES THAT MAY HAVE ALERTED US TO THE DRIFT ONE OR TWO SECONDS EARLIER. UNFORTUNATELY; THE AIRPLANE WAS HYDROPLANING AND BRAKES AND REVERSE THRUST WAS INEFFECTIVE. WE LEFT THE RWY SO QUICK THAT WE DID NOT NOTICE IF THE SPOILERS DEPLOYED FROM THEIR ARMED POSITION. MAYBE IF WE HAD ONE OR TWO SECONDS MORE TO EVALUATE WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO THE AIRPLANE WE MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT OUR SIT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 522747: LNDG APPEARED NORMAL AND WITHIN TOUCHDOWN ZONE WITH AUTO BRAKES AND REVERSE THRUST SELECTED. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TOUCHDOWN; RAIN INTENSITY INCREASED AND ACFT BEGAN DRIFTING LEFT. ACFT REMAINED INTACT WITH NO INJURIES TO PAX OR CREW REPORTED.
