A DC10-10 ON CLBOUT AT FL230 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO LOSS OF #3 HYD SYS PRESSURE AND QUANTITY. CAUSED BY FAILED R ENG DRIVEN PUMP.

Narrative

DURING ENRTE CLBOUT; 'ELEVATOR SYS #3 OFF' LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING LOSS OF SYS #3 HYD FLUID. RAPID LOSS OF ALL HYD #3 FLUID OCCURRED. ALL REQUIRED CHKLISTS WERE COMPLIED WITH. THE CAPT DECLARED AN EMER AND THE DECISION TO RETURN TO LAX WAS MADE. FUEL DUMPING COMMENCED AFTER TURNING AROUND TO REDUCE TO MAX LNDG WT. A LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED ON RWY 25R AT LAX (LONGEST RWY). EMER CRASH RESCUE WERE STANDING BY FOR PRECAUTIONARY REASONS. FOLLOWING A NORMAL LNDG; THE ACFT WAS TAXIED CLR OF ALL RWYS. DUE TO LIMITED BRAKING AND NOSEWHEEL STEERING; THE ACFT WAS PARKED ON TXWY C. ACFT GND CREW WERE CALLED TO THE AIRPLANE TO GATE. SHUTDOWN OF ENGS #2 AND #3 PRIOR TO TOWING. ENG #1 WAS LEFT RUNNING FOR BRAKING. ENG #1 WAS SHUT DOWN AT THE GATE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE LOSS OF #3 SYS PRESSURE AND QUANTITY WAS CAUSED BY FAILURE OF THE #3 ENG R ENG DRIVE PUMP OUTLET FITTING. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN 523468 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE LOSS OF #3 SYS WAS CAUSED BY A FAILED ENG DRIVEN PUMP ON #3 ENG; POS UNKNOWN.
