ON 9/FRI/01; LISTENING TO TV RPTS I WAS UNDERSTANDING THAT GA WAS CLR TO FLY. AFTER RETRIEVING BAGGAGE AT LAX WENT TO HHR BY TAXI; UNCOVERED; STOWED COVER AND BAGGAGE; COMPLETED PREFLT AND DEPARTED APPROX XA10. HHR TWR WAS CLOSED. WEATHER WAS GREATER THAN 10 MILE VISIBILITY AND THE CEILING WAS GREATER THAN 3000 FT. ALL I REMEMBER AFTER LISTENING TO ATIS IS THAT YOU COULD NOT FILE YOUR IFR PLAN AFTER TAKEOFF. SINCE I WAS FLYING VFR I DISMISSED THIS. MY MIND SET FROM FRIDAY REPORTS WAS THAT IT WAS PERMISSIBLE TO FLY. AS I HAVE DONE SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST; I FLEW TO AJO AT APPROX 2000 FT; AN 18 MIN FLT. ARRIVING AT AJO; FUELED AND PARKED THE PLANE. AS I WAS COMPLETING UNLOADING BAGGAGE THE CORONA POLICE ARRIVED AND ASKED IF I HAD JUST LANDED. I ACKNOWLEDGED THAT I HAD AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE FAA HAD CALLED THEM. I WAS SURPRISED. A FEW MINUTES LATER MORE CORONA POLICE ARRIVED AND AFTER THAT A HELI. I AM PRESUMING THAT WAS THE SHERIFF; OR HWY PATROL. AN INDIVIDUAL FROM THE HELI TOOK INFO PLT CERTIFICATE NUMBER; MY CA DRIVERS LICENSE AND WHERE I DEPARTED FROM; TIME OF DEP AND TIME OF FLT; ETC. AFTER SEVERAL MINS I WAS ASKED TO 'HANG AROUND' FOR A WHILE AS THEY WERE STILL TALKING WITH THE FAA. I COMPLIED AND AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I WAS TOLD BY THE INDIVIDUAL FROM THE HELI THAT HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. I EXPLAINED THAT THE INFO I WAS AWARE OF WAS THAT GA COULD FLY. HE INFORMED ME THAT THAT WAS A FALSE RPT AND THERE WERE TO BE NO VFR FLTS. HE SUGGESTED THAT I CALL THE FAA; AND GAVE ME THE TELEPHONE NUMBER. APPROX 10 MINS LATER AFTER ARRIVING HOME; I CONTACTED THE FAA. HE VERIFIED MY CERTIFICATE NUMBER AND ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE FAA RPT THAT I HEARD ON FRIDAY WAS UNTRUE AND HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BUT 'NOT TO WORRY' ABOUT IT. I WAS NOT AWARE I WAS DOING ANYTHING IMPROPER.
