Synopsis

ON A LATE NIGHT ARR AT ORD INSTRUCTION WAS GIVEN TO TAXI AS DESIRED TO THE RAMP. CAUSES A CARGO CREW TO NEGLECT TO CALL THE RAMP CTLR.

Narrative

UPON LNDG AT ORD WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI ALL THE WAY TO PARKING ON THIS FREQ (TWR). WE WERE ALSO ADVISED THAT WE COULD USE ANY TAXI RTE WE DESIRED. TFC WAS LIGHT AND WE SAW NO ACTIVITY DEPARTING THE S CARGO RAMP. SO; WE TOOK THE MOST DIRECT RTE TO PARKING; WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE BLOCKED IN AND WERE INFORMED BY A RAMP CTL INDIVIDUAL THAT WE FAILED TO CONTACT THEM BEFORE ENTERING THE RAMP (AS PUBLISHED). HE WAS CORRECT! WE SHOULD HAVE COMPLIED WITH PUBLISHED PROCS BUT PROCEEDED IN THE DIRECTION OF LEAST RESISTANCE BECAUSE WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO 'TAXI ALL THE WAY TO PARKING' BY TWR. I BELIEVE THIS BREAK IN PROCEDURAL DISCIPLINE IS MAINLY CAUSED BY THE ADVERSE AFFECTS OF BODY CLOCK REVERSAL. THERE IS NO WAY TO PREPARE FOR LATE NIGHT DEP OR THE FIRST DAY OF A TRIP ESPECIALLY WHEN THE DUTY DAY WILL EXCEED 12 HRS. THE BODY IS READY TO GO TO SLEEP AND IT IS EASY TO REVERT TO STANDARD OR USUAL HABIT PATTERNS (WE AT ACR DON'T USUALLY CALL A RAMP CTLR WHEN INSTRUCTED TO TAXI ALL THE WAY TO PARKING). NO EXCUSES BUT I WILL BE MUCH MORE PREDISPOSED TO CHK EVERY PAGE OF THE PUBLISHED PROCS.
