B737-300 CREW HAD CONFLICTING SID COMMERCIAL CHART DEP INFO ON THE HORNET 1 FROM CLT.
Narrative
CLRED HORNET 1 DEP NALEY TRANSITION. I (PF) INITIALLY BRIEFED RWY 36L DEP LEFT TURN TO 330 DET AT 2.5 CLT. I COULD NOT FIND A TEXT EXPLAINING THE NALEY TRANSITION. I DID FIND A TEXT LISTED UNDER DEP THAT STATED 'PROCEED VIA THE DEPICTED RADIAL TO THE TRANSITION FIX. I THOUGHT THAT MEANT FOR THE NALEY TRANSITION WE SHOULD PROCEED VIA THE 022 RADIAL OUT TO NALEY. I WAS NOT SURE AND DUE TO THE INCREASE IN SECURITY PROCEDURES WE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO CLARIFY THIS PRIOR TO PUSH BACK. WE DECIDE WE WOULD ASK TWR PRIOR TO TKOF TO VERIFY EITHER A STRAIGHT OUT CLIMB OR A LEFT TURN AT CLT 2.5 DME. TWR WAS EXTREMELY BUSY AND CLRED US FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF. WHEN ON THE RWY HE TOLD US TO GET OFF AS LNDG TFC WAS TO CLOSE. I WAS THINKING THAT WOULD GIVE US A CHANCE TO ASK TWR TO CLARIFY DEP PROCEDURES. BUT AGAIN WE COULD NOT GET A WORD IN AT ALL UNTIL WE WERE AGAIN CLRED FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF. I DECIDED THE WORDING OF PROCEED VIA THE RADIAL WAS FOR THE NALEY TRANSITION AND 011 DEG WAS THE PROPER TKOF HEADING FOR THE NALEY TRANSITION. THE FO SAID HE WOULD CONFIRM WITH DEP CTL. WE WERE PROBABLY A MI BEYOND OUR TURN POINT BEFORE DEP CONFIRMED ALL; RWY 36L DEP ARE TO TURN AT 2.5 DME. I THINK IT WOULD HELP PREVENT THIS SIT IF THE DEP FOR NALEY TRANSITION IS WRITTEN IN TEXT SOMEWHERE ON THIS COMPANY CHART PAGE. ALSO WE SHOULD HAVE CLARIFIED THE PROPER HDG PRIOR TO TKOF.
