AN MD80 ON TAXI TO THE HANGAR BY MAINT TECHNICIANS INCURRED A RWY INCURSION CAUSED BY LACK OF COMMUNICATION BY TAXI CREW.

Narrative

WE LEFT THE GATE WITH TAXI INSTRUCTIONS OF TXWY BRAVO TO TXWY ROMEO AND TO CROSS RWY 9L AND RWY 4L. WE EXITED THE K ALLEYWAY ONTO TXWY BRAVO AND CONTINUED TOWARD RWY 9R. I TOLD MR X WE WERE PASSING THE TXWY AND DID NOT GET A RESPONSE. HE CONTINUED ONTO THE RWY; AT WHICH TIME I TOLD HIM HE WAS ON THE RWY. AGAIN; I DID NOT GET A RESPONSE. GND CTL CALLED AND TOLD US WE WERE ON THE RWY; AND TO EXIT ON TXWY F. AFTER TURNING ON TXWY F; WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO GET BACK ON TXWY BRAVO AND CONTINUE TO TXWY ROMEO. GND CALLED BACK A MIN LATER AND GAVE US A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL. AFTER ARRIVING AT HANGAR; MR X CALLED THE PHONE NUMBER. I DID NOT THINK BOTH OF US HAD TO CALL SINCE HE WAS THE DRIVER AND I WAS RIDING RADIOS. I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM MANAGER MR Y AT HOME. HE NOTIFIED ME OF THE INCIDENT; ASKED ME TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED; AND INSTRUCTED ME TO RTN TO ZZZ ARPT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED ON START OF TAXI TO THE HANGAR THE ATCT GND CTLR'S DIRECTIONS WERE CLR. THE RPTR SAID HE WAS OCCUPYING THE RIGHT SEAT MONITORING THE RADIO AND RELAYED THE EXACT DIRECTIONS TO THE LEFT SEAT TECHNICIAN OPERATING THE ACFT. THE RPTR SAID THE AIRPLANE PROCEEDED FROM THE TERMINAL ALLEY TO THE TXWY. THE RPTR STATED WHEN THE AIRPLANE CROSSED THE ASSIGNED TXWY HE IMMEDIATELY ALERTED THE LEFT SEAT TECHNICIAN THAT A RIGHT TURN WAS REQUIRED AND RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. THE RPTR STATED THE RWY WAS NOW COMING UP AND AGAIN THE LEFT SEAT TECHNICIAN WAS ALERTED THAT THEY WERE GOING TO CROSS THE RWY AND AGAIN NO RESPONSE. THE RPTR SAID THE ATCT GND CTLR AT THIS POINT INTERVENED AND ADVISED TURNING OFF AT THE NEXT TXWY AND GETTING ON THE CORRECT TXWY TO THE HANGAR. THE RPTR STATED NEITHER THE LEFT SEAT TECHNICIAN NOR THE RPTR WERE WEARING HEADPHONES AS THE COCKPIT SPEAKERS WERE OPERATING NORMALLY. THE FAA HAS MADE CONTACT AND AN INVESTIGATION IS POSSIBLE. THE RPTR SAID HE HAS 5 YEARS EXPERIENCE.
