Synopsis

A FALCON 10 ON TKOF CLB AT 1500 FT DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO LOSS OF #1 SYS HYD PRESSURE. CAUSED BY ENG DRIVEN PUMP INCORRECT INSTALLATION.

Narrative

ACFT WAS DISPATCHED ALL SYS SATISFACTORY. #1 HYD PUMP WAS CHANGED BECAUSE IT WAS DUE. NEW YELLOW TAGGED PUMP INSTALLED. SYS PRESSURE AND QUANTITY CHKED NORMAL. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF WE INDICATED A #1 SYS FAILURE. WE PERFORMED APPROPRIATE CHKLIST; ACTIVATED STANDBY (AUX) SYS; AND DECLARED AN EMER; REQUESTING RADAR VECTORS TO ZZZ ARPT. THIS ARPT WAS SELECTED BECAUSE OF ITS RWY LENGTH; FIRE SUPPORT; ETC. WE ALSO DELAYED LNDG MOMENTARILY TO REDUCE FUEL ON BOARD TO GET TO MAX LNDG WT. STANDBY SYS FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. LANDED AND CLRED RWY WITHOUT INCIDENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ENG DRIVEN HYD PUMP WAS REPLACED PRIOR TO THIS FLT DUE TO TIME. THE RPTR SAID A NEW PUMP WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY UPSIDE DOWN WITH THE LINE CONNECTIONS ALSO INCORRECT. THE RPTR STATED THE PUMP FAILED ON TKOF AND DUMPED METAL INTO THE SYS INCLUDING THE STANDBY HYD SYS. THE RPTR SAID THE AIRPLANE WAS OTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS WHILE ALL FILTERS WERE REPLACED AND THE SYS FLUSHED TO REMOVE THE METAL.
