Narrative
MYF HAS 3 RWYS: RWY 5/23; RWY 10L/28R; AND RWY 10R/28L. I HAVE ALMOST ALWAYS USED RWY 28R FOR TKOFS. ON THIS DAY RWY 23 WAS IN USE. I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 23 FROM REFUELING STATION TO RWY 23 VIA TXWYS H; B; TAXI ONTO RWY 28R AND THEN TXWY C TO THE RUNUP AREA. HOWEVER; SOMETHING DIFFERENT OCCURRED THAT I HAD NOT EXPERIENCED BEFORE AND IS KEY TO MY ERROR. I WAS TOLD BY GND TO STAY ON GND FREQ AND LET THEM KNOW WHEN I WAS READY AFTER RUNUP. THE RUNUP AREA IS IN CLOSE PROX TO THE ENTRANCE TO RWY 23. I FINISHED MY RUNUP AND LET GND KNOW THAT I WAS READY AND WAS TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 23 AND CONTACT TWR. I SHOULD HAVE TAXIED TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE WHICH WAS VERY CLOSE BY. I DID NOT. I MISTAKENLY TAXIED ONTO RWY 23. I HAD DEVELOPED A PATTERN OF ALWAYS TALKING TO THE TWR AFTER RUNUP AS IS THE NORM WHEN USING RWY 28R. I WAS IN THIS FRAME OF MIND WHEN GIVEN THE TAXI CLRNC TO RWY 23. I INCORRECTLY INTERPED THIS AS A TWR CLRNC TO TAXI ONTO THE RWY. ONCE ON TWR FREQ; I WAS TOLD OF MY ERROR; WHICH I HAD REALIZED MYSELF AT THAT POINT AND I EXPLAINED AND APOLOGIZED THAT I THOUGHT GND HAD CLRED ME ONTO THE RWY. THIS; OF COURSE; WAS INCORRECT NOR COULD GND DO THAT. BUT I HAD INTERPED IT THAT WAY DUE TO THE MIND SET I WAS IN AT THAT PHASE OF THE FLT. I WAS NOT USED TO TALKING TO GND AFTER RUNUP AND WAS IN A TALKING TO THE TWR FOR TKOF PATTERN OF THOUGHT. 1 GA ACFT ON 1 MI FINAL (TOLD TO ME BY THE CTLR ON THE PHONE LATER) HAD TO GO AROUND. I DID OBSERVE IT PASSING HIGH OVERHEAD. I WAS EVENTUALLY CLRED FOR TKOF AND ASKED TO CALL THE TWR UPON LNDG; WHICH I DID. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: IT WAS MY MISTAKE AND I ALONE AM RESPONSIBLE. I WILL SEEK TRAINING ON MY OWN AND COMPLY WITH WHATEVER FSDO WILL DECIDE. HOWEVER; I WOULD SUGGEST THAT IF GND IS GIVING TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO A RWY FOR SUCH A SHORT DISTANCE FROM THE RUNUP AREA WHERE YOU WOULD NORMALLY BE TALKING TO THE TWR IT WOULD HELP IF THE SAME TWR TERMINOLOGY (HOLD SHORT) WAS USED; AND EXPECT A READBACK OF THOSE HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS. I BELIEVE THIS WOULD HAVE PREVENTED MY ERROR.
