Narrative
WHILE PREPARING FOR TKOF ON RWY 18; GTU; I OBSERVED A CESSNA ON BASE LEG FOR THE SAME RWY. I ANNOUNCED ON CTAF THAT I WAS '...ROLLING FOR DEP ON RWY 18.' AFTER PASSING THE HOLD LINE; BUT BEFORE ENTERING THE RWY; I OBSERVED THE CESSNA TURNING FINAL. THE CESSNA ANNOUNCED 'ACFT TAKING OFF ON RWY 18; DO YOU SEE ME ON SHORT FINAL?' I ANNOUNCED 'I HAVE YOU IN SIGHT; I WILL HOLD.' I STOPPED SHORT OF THE RWY; BUT PAST THE HOLD LINE. THE CESSNA CONTINUED HIS APCH; BUT OVER THE FENCE LINE; HE ANNOUNCED 'GOING AROUND DUE TO RWY INCURSION.' HE THEN PROCEEDED TO GO AROUND. I LAUNCHED SHORTLY THEREAFTER AND CONTINUED WITHOUT INCIDENT. 1) THE PATTERN WAS VERY CROWDED; FREQ CONGESTED; I FELT PRESSURE (SELF-INDUCED) TO HURRY MY DEP AND GET OUT OF THE 'FURBALL.' 2) I OBSERVED THE DEP OF AN ACFT JUST PRIOR TO MINE; WITH AN ACFT ON BASE TO FINAL TURN; WITHOUT INCIDENT. I ASSUMED THAT WAS AN EFFICIENT PROC TO WORK A CROWDED PATTERN. ON REFLECTION; MY EXPERIENCE LEVEL IS INADEQUATE TO MAKE THAT A VALID ASSUMPTION. 3) CORRECTIVE ACTION -- ENSURE THAT PATTERN IS CLR. WAIT AS NECESSARY TO ENSURE THAT FINAL APCH CANNOT BE ENTERED PRIOR TO XING HOLD LINE.
