MD80 WAS STILL ON RWY 27R APCHING TXWY J AT ORD WHEN A COMPANY ACFT BEHIND LANDED ON THE SAME RWY.

Narrative

EXITING RWY AT ORD WHILE OTHER ACFT TOUCHING DOWN. ATC FACILITY: ORD TWR. LOCATION: W END OF RWY 27R; TURNING ONTO TXWY J. ON APCH RWY 27R AT ORD; TWR DID NOT RESPOND TO MY CALL AT THE MARKER; TAFFS. AT ABOUT A 2 MI FINAL THEY TOLD AN ACFT WITH A VERY SIMILAR CALL SIGN TO EXPEDITE ACROSS RWY 27R. AFTER MY NEXT CALL THE CTLR RESPONDED WITH LNDG CLRNC; POSSIBLE A NEW VOICE. AS WE SLOWED AFTER LNDG I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT FROM THE FO AS WE APCHED THE RWY 22R INTXN; WHILE I THOUGHT WE WERE SLOW ENOUGH TO EXIT ONTO RWY 22R. WITHOUT CLRNC I CONTINUED STRAIGHT AHEAD ON RWY 27R. TWR SAID EXPEDITE TO EXIT AT TXWY E. AS WE STARTED TO TURN FOR TXWY E; THE R MAIN GEAR ANTI-SKID STARTED RELEASING AS IT WAS NOW ON THE WET PAINT STRIPES. SINCE I COULD NOT SLOW DOWN ENOUGH FOR THAT TURN; I CONTINUED TO THE END; SLOWED BEFORE THE THRESHOLD PAINT AND TURNED L ONTO TXWY J. TWR WAS TOO BUSY TO INTERRUPT; BUT I WAS EXPECTING TO HEAR A GAR ISSUED FOR THE ACFT BEHIND US ACR FLT XYZ. AS WE TURNED ONTO TXWY J; I LOOKED L AND COULD SEE AN ACFT WITH LNDG LIGHTS ON THE RWY 27R. HE HAD SLOWED AND EXITED AT TXWY C BEFORE WE HAD CROSSED THE DEP END OF RWY 4R. WE ENDED UP FOLLOWING ACR FLT XYZ TO THE TERMINAL; IE; I BELIEVE HE CLRED THE RWY VERY SHORTLY AFTER WE DID. I THINK THE ORD TWR CTLRS ARE THE BEST; AND I DON'T WANT THIS RPT TO CAUSE MUCH TROUBLE UP THERE; BUT IN TALKING WITH THE TWR; I LEARNED ABOUT AMASS WHICH USES THE ASR 9 AND GND CTL RADAR TO ISSUE A GAR COMMAND IF A RWY IS OCCUPIED WHILE A PLANE IS LNDG. PERHAPS THE SOFTWARE CAN BE IMPROVED WITH RPTS.
