Narrative
SARASOTA GND CTL CLRED ME TO TAXI TO RWY 04. AS I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT; I CONSULTED THE ARPT DIAGRAM TO CONFIRM THE RTE WAS VIA TXWY A TO TXWY B AND R ON B TO RWY 04. APCHING RWY 04; I STOPPED ON TXWY A AND CALLED THE GND CTLR TO VERIFY I WAS CLRED ACROSS RWY 04. GND CTL CHASTISED ME FOR TAXIING TO THE WRONG RWY; REPEATED I WAS CLRED TO RWY 04; AND INSTRUCTED ME TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN AND PROCEED TO TXWY D; THEN LEFT ON D TO RWY 04. THERE WAS NO ACTUAL INCURSION ONTO RWY 04 BECAUSE I QUESTIONED THE CLRNC; BUT THE INCIDENT WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED HAD TXWY D BEEN CHARTED AND/OR THE CTLR BEEN AWARE THAT WAS THE CASE AND ISSUED A MORE SPECIFIC CLRNC. A COPY OF THE ARPT DIAGRAM IS ENCLOSED TO ILLUSTRATE. IT IS FROM THE TERMINAL PROCS BOOKLET PRIOR TO THE ONE I WAS USING AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT; BUT THE CURRENT BOOKLET ALSO FAILS TO SHOW TXWY D. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: A 'KSRQ' OPS OFFICER REVEALED THAT THERE IS PRESENT ON GOING CONSTRUCTION AT KSRQ TO LENGTHEN RWY 14/32 ALONG WITH THE ASSOCIATED 'A' TXWY. THE SE PORTION WAS JUST COMPLETED WITH A 1150 FT ADDITION. THE NW PORTION WITH A 1350 FT ADDITION IS SLATED FOR COMPLETION IN APPROX THREE MONTHS. ANOTHER PROJECT WHICH WAS FINISHED IN EARLY 2001; APPROX ONE YR AGO; WAS THE CONSTRUCTION OF 'D' TXWY. DELTA STARTS AT 'A' TXWY PARALLELING 4/22 TO THE END OF RWY 4.
