Narrative
TOOK OFF FROM MEM RWY 18L. AT 2000 FT MSL; CRC MASTER WARNING SOUNDED AND ECAM STATED THAT WE HAD A POSITIVE SMOKE INDICATION ON THE MAIN CARGO DECK. REQUESTED IMMEDIATE RTN TO MEM. DIRECTED FO TO ACCOMPLISH ECAM PROCS WHILE I FLEW ACFT AND OPERATED RADIOS. AT THIS POINT ALL RED ECAM AND OVERHEAD WARNINGS STOPPED. ONLY AMBER ECAM WARNINGS REMAINED WHICH FO ACCOMPLISHED. FO BRIEFED ME ON STATUS; AND INFORMED ME THAT THE RED MID1 COMPARTMENT SMOKE LIGHT HAD BEEN ON ACCOMPANIED BY BOTH SYS A AND B DETECTOR AMBER LIGHTS. ADDITIONALLY DETECTOR AMBER LIGHT IN AFT AREA HAD BEEN ON. AT NO TIME DID WE NOTICE ACTUAL SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. WE DECLARED AN EMER WITH ATC SO THAT EMER EQUIP WOULD BE STANDING NY IN CASE SMOKE BECAME EVIDENT OR FIRE BROKE OUT. WE SET UP FOR AN IMMEDIATE APCH TO RWY 27; ACCOMPLISHED APPROPRIATE CHECKLIST; AND WERE CLRED A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 27. APCH AND LNDG WERE UNEVENTFUL. ON GND WE WERE DIRECTED TO GATE X. WE CONTINUED TO MONITOR SMOKE DETECTION SYS. AFTER PARKING; FIRE AND EMER PERSONNEL ENTERED THE ACFT FOR INSPECTION. NO SMOKE OR FUMES WERE FOUND. WE SECURED ACFT AND TURNED IT OVER TO MAINT.
