B767 FLC LOST CTL MOMENTARILY WHEN TURB CAUSED THE ACFT TO CLB AND AIRSPD INCREASE RESULTING IN AUTO DISCONNECT OF THE AUTOPLT AND MINOR INJURY TO CABIN ATTENDANTS AND A PAX.
Narrative
I WAS PF CAPT. ON DAY PRIOR; HAD BAD TURB OVER OAL. ON DAY OF EVENT; I BRIEFED THE FLT ATTENDANTS ON TURB. I MADE PA TO PAX ABOUT TURB AND SEATBELT SIGN PRIOR TO TKOF. APPROX 200 MI W OF MGM; ACFT IN FRONT OF US RPTED MODERATE CHOP IN TOPS. WE TURNED SEATBELT SIGN ON; MADE PA ANNOUNCEMENT. WE SAW FLASHES SO WE USED RADAR. NO RETURNS AT ALL. AS WE GOT CLOSE TO STATION; WE ASKED WHICH WAY OTHERS HAD GONE. WE ASKED FOR A R DEV FOR TOPS. I GOT ON PA TO FLT ATTENDANTS; THEN WE GOT SEVERE TURB WHICH OVERSPD THE ACFT; DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT ON ITS OWN AND PUSHED US UP OVER 500 FT. I HAND FLEW ACFT AND PULLED PWR BACK TO IDLE; RECOVERED BACK TO FL370. TIME WAS LESS THAN 10 SECONDS. ADVISED ATC; CALLED FLT ATTENDANTS; MADE PA; CALLED MAINT; CHKED HANDBOOK. GOT CLB TO FL390. NO FURTHER PROB. 3 FLT ATTENDANTS HAD MINOR INJURIES AND ASKED FOR HELP AT DEST. DIDN'T DECLARE EMER. DEBRIEFED MAINT AT DEST. WAITED WITH FLT ATTENDANTS AND PARAMEDICS. FLT ATTENDANTS WENT TO HOTEL OK. 1 PAX SAID HE WAS HURT AFTER HE GOT OFF ACFT. FACTORS: WAS NOT TIRED. WAS WELL AWARE OF TURB WELL IN ADVANCE. WE MADE PRECAUTIONS AND GOT A TURN S. EVENT OCCURRED VERY FAST ONCE IT BEGAN. ATC WANTED NO DEBRIEF WITH ALTDEV.
