Synopsis

A B767-300 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE OF AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE WITH A MODIFIED BOOST PUMP INSTALLED IN AN UNMODIFIED ACFT.

Narrative

PERFORMED ROUTINE INSPECTION OF THE FUEL OVERRIDE BOOST PUMPS ON A B767-300 ACFT AS REQUIRED BY AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE 94-11-05 AND 2001-15-08. FOUND R FUEL BOOST PUMP INTERNAL SEAL DETERIORATED. I INADVERTENTLY ORDERED A REPLACEMENT PUMP THAT WAS MODIFIED PER AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE 2001-15-08; HOWEVER; THE AIRFRAME WAS NOT MODIFIED PER AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE 2001-15-08. ANOTHER TECHNICIAN INSTALLED THE BOOST PUMP AND SIGNED THE LOG ITEM. I GOT THE PART NUMBER INFO FROM THE LIST. THE PART NUMBER ON THE LIST WAS THE PART NUMBER FOR THE MODIFIED PART THAT NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED FOR ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THE AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE 2001-15-08. OTHER B767 LISTS HAVE A CAUTIONARY NOTE TO INSTALL ONLY MODIFIED PUMPS BECAUSE THE AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE HAS BEEN COMPLIED WITH. THE CAUTIONARY NOTE DOES NOT INCLUDE A PART NUMBER; HOWEVER; UNMODIFIED ACFT HAVE A PART NUMBER FOR A MODIFIED PUMP LISTED ON THE LIST. I CONFUSED THE 2 ITEMS AND ORDERED THE WRONG PUMP. IN MY OPINION; TO AVOID REOCCURRENCE OF THE CONFUSION; I WOULD SUGGEST ELIMINATION OF THE PART NUMBERS BEING LISTED ON THE LIST.
