Narrative
ON DEP FROM BCT; WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. I WAS THE CAPT AND PF. I CONFIRMED WITH THE COPLT THAT OUR CLRNC WAS RWY HDG; 2000 FT WITH A TURN TO 360 DEGS AFTER TKOF. HE SAID YES. AFTER TKOF; I TURNED TO A 360 DEG HDG (TKOF WAS RWY 5) AND WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT PALM BEACH APCH. UPON INITIAL CALL-UP; THE COPLT NEGLECTED TO STATE OUR HDG. NEXT CALL FROM APCH; WE WERE GIVEN A HIGHER ALT AND THE COPLT STATED OUR HDG OF 360 DEGS. APCH SAID WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE RWY HDG 050 DEGS. COPLT JUST SAT THERE LOOKING DUMBFOUNDED. I TOOK OVER THE RADIOS AND SAID WE HAD BEEN ASSIGNED 360 DEGS. THE CTLR SAID 'THAT'D BE OK; STAY ON THE 360 DEG HDG.' WHEN HE (THE CTLR) HANDED US OFF TO THE NEXT FREQ; HE APOLOGIZED FOR FORGETTING THE 360 DEG HDG -- NO PROBS. I THANKED HIM; THINKING NO PROBS. AT CRUISE; I QUERIED THE COPLT; TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE COM PROB CAME IN AS WE HAD A COUPLE OF DAYS LEFT ON THIS TRIP TO FLY TOGETHER. HE MADE A STATEMENT WHICH; AT THE TIME; DIDN'T QUITE MAKE SENSE; BUT LATER; AFTER THE FLT; I GOT TO THINK ABOUT IT. BCT HAS NO DEP PROC; BUT IT DOES STRESS NOISE ABATEMENT PROCS. THE COPLT HAD GIVEN ME THE NOISE ABATEMENT PROC TURN; NOT THE ATC CLRNC; WHEN I ASKED HIM TO CONFIRM TKOF CLRNC. FOR SOME REASON; HE ASSUMED THIS WAS MANDATORY.
